The Best Steak Restaurants in London

Need to eat your feelings and only a piece of prime cut mouthwatering steak will suffice? Don’t make the mis-steak of going to a sub-par beef joint, we’ve taken your needs into careful consideration and rounded up all the best meateries offering outstanding chops in London. We’d like to say our list is pretty rare medium well done, but less so on the puns we’ve come up with.

From the people who also brought to you the insanely popular chain Burger & Lobster (and who could forget the selfies  that ended up adorning most of our Instagram feeds at some point or another,  with people wearing their complimentary bibs, grinning cheek-to-cheek ), but anyway, back to beef: these guys have built a reputation for being a carnivore’s dream, offering a selection of some of the finest beef available in London. A three-venue chain covering Mayfair, City and Canary Wharf, each and every steak has been dry-aged on site to ensure they retain their mouthwatering flavour, and then cooked over charcoal – through the fiery blast of a Josper grill no less. Goodman source their beef from both sides of the Atlantic, including Nebraskan USDA corn-fed, as well as rare breeds from the Lake District such as those from Longhorn and Belted Galloway cattle. With burgers from £16 and steaks from £30, make the trip to Goodman’s and if we can say with certainty one thing, it won’t be something you will regret.

Looking for succulent, expertly cooked steaks but open to trying beef from all four corners of the globe? Zelman Meats may just be the ticket for you, as the connoisseurs that they are. Having just opened month its third premise at St Paul’s this month, and with its two other restaurants residing in Soho and in Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge, its menus vary according to the best cuts available that day. This could be anything from a tender Chateaubriand, cut from the thickest part of the fillet, at £9 per 100g, or perhaps on another day some of the finest Brazilian Picanha steaks at £6.50 per 100g.

Instrumental in giving a helping hand to put British beef back on the culinary map, this steakhouse opened in 2006 and has now spread across seven locations from London to Manchester thanks to its loyal following, The Hawksmoor crew are completely devoted to the quality of life of their Yorkshire bred cattle, whom are grass-fed and raised slowly in order to reach maturity. The delicious end product shows just how seriously they take this. Why not go all out and try one if its large cuts? We recommend the T-Bone cuts, priced £8.25 per 100g or the Porterhouse at £9.25 per 100g.

Heliot Steak House

14 Cranbourn Street, Leicester Square, WC2H 7JH

Find yourself in the West End and only steak will appease your appetite? Heliot Steak House should be your first port of call no doubt. Competitively priced, with its USDA prime cuts aged for between 4-6 weeks and starting at just £15, but no less delicious than some of its more expensive rivals, it’s well worth a visit.

The meilleure architecture, literature, art, and evidently, food, there is little the French do not effortlessly excel at. Originally opened in Paris, the restaurant,  (and nicknamed ‘L’entrecôte’ for those in the know) is located in four branches across London, including Marylebone and Canary Wharf. The French establishment offers only one main dish, but it’s not to be underestimated: the amazing steak frites comes with second portions and complete with its secret recipe sauce – one closely guarded since 1959 en fait. It is truly one of the best places to go if you want une viande exceptionnelle and an overall très bon repas. Ok, we will stop showing off that we know a little bit of French now.

Sure, this Gaucho steakhouse may be hidden away on a fairly non-descript street by Piccadilly, but this restaurant certainly packs a sizzling meaty punch once inside, and that even goes for the interior: decked out in eye-catching cowhide no less!. Bringing a little of Pampas and Buenos Aires to the West End, Gaucho provides a full range of luxury cuts of Argentinian beef starting from £19.95, and you will be shown prior to your meal the meat cuts available, and you choose which one you would prefer! How about that?
