Gabriela Faria – The Lisbon Project

lisbon project

The Lisbon Project is a non-profit organisation that exists to protect and integrate migrants and refugees in the city of Lisbon. Founded in 2017, at the Lisbon Project we believe integration begins with belonging. A sense of community, where every member is heard, respected and empowered, is at the heart of everything that we do. The Lisbon Project team is guided by three goals that shape our approach: inclusion, empowerment and mobilisation.

By creating opportunities for community building so that each members is removed from a place of isolation into one of inclusion, our five programs are aimed at empowering migrants and refugees with the necessary tools to write a new story in Portugal. Our programs touch on the various areas of life: Education, Employment, Health & Wellbeing, Legal Aid and Benevolence. Believing it is the shared responsibility of all to realise a successful integration, the Lisbon Project mobilises various different actors in the local community to make our efforts possible. From primary students in a local school, to CEOs in multinational companies to a physician at a medical clinic, we count on the support of everyone to partner, volunteer and donate towards our mission!

Four years later, the Lisbon Project has assisted over 1,100 migrants and refugees from all over the world. Today, we look to the future with great expectation. Our main priorities are focused on strengthening our team of staff so that we our programs are more sustainable and reliable for our community. We will continue to mobilise the local community and embrace those who seek to make Lisbon their home. Our dream is to have various hubs throughout the city so that more can access our services and belong to this diverse LP family- a home away from home.

Alison Telfer – Right Here Productions

alison telfer

Alison founded Right Here Productions after graduating from the University of Aberdeen with a degree in English and Film & Visual Culture and a Masters in Visual Culture in 2010. During her Masters year, Alison co-created a brand new musical which premiered at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, then was adapted and performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011, and this is where Right Here Productions was created.

Right Here Productions (RHP) started off very much as a film company, producing documentaries, promotional videos and filming a variety of theatre performances and conferences. In 2015, Alison and her team began writing and performing murder mysteries in venues across the North East of Scotland including National Trust properties, the Caledonian Railway and Peterhead Prison Museum. In 2017, the company expanded yet again to include musical performances, including singing waiters.

Now, RHP is a well known and respected film, theatre and entertainment company in the North East of Scotland.

When the country went into lockdown in 2020, Alison watched all her bookings disappear, with no indication of when things would return to ‘normal’. She quickly adapted and moved her services online, offering online games, virtual events and personalised sing-a-grams. She has now created around 20 games (murder mysteries and more family friendly themes), 13 of which are available via her website, and the personalised sing-a-grams continue to be popular as unique, digital gifts for any occasion.

Looking forward, Alison is excited about where RHP will go next. 2022 is set to be a busy year with new bookings coming in every week. And with ideas flying around for ways to expand the business further, including escape rooms and monthly workshops for local performers, Alison is raring to go!
