Zego offers 14 days free cover to customers with suspected Covid-19

  • Zego is an insurer specialising in flexible insurance for new mobility and fleet service providers, offering highly-customised policies to gig economy workers and businesses.
  • Established in 2016, Zego has provided over 230 million hours of insurance protection to over 110,000 vehicles.
  • In 2019, Zego raised $42million in Series B funding and was the first UK insurtech to be awarded an insurance licence.
  • Zego is a trading name of Extracover Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

As of Friday 20th March, Zego announced that it is offering customers who have been forced to self-isolate because of coronavirus up to 14 days’ worth of free cover. The London-based company hopes the offer will help to alleviate the financial strain felt by any of its customers unable to earn money for an extended period.

Zego specialises in flexible, usage-based insurance policies and currently insures a large portion of the UK’s delivery and ride-hailing workforce, partnering with companies including Uber and Deliveroo. The offer will allow Zego’s customers who have fallen ill or suspect that they have Covid-19 to claim up to two weeks of free cover when they renew their policy.

As the Covid-19 situation continues to develop, the role of delivery workers, in particular, is set to become increasingly important. This was emphasised earlier this week, when the Government announced that all restaurants and pubs would be permitted to operate as takeaways, enabling them to keep operations going by delivering food to customers.

Sten Saar, CEO and co-founder of Zego: “Zego was founded to provide opportunity through flexible insurance and fair pricing. In these uncertain times, we will be doing everything we can to ensure customers continue to feel those benefits, and are not weighed down by fixed costs if they are unable to work.

“We will keep trying to build solutions to make our customers’ lives easier, and are working hard as a team to meet new challenges as they arise. This job is being made much easier by our partners, including La Parisienne Assurances, who have been incredibly responsive and helpful during this process.”
