Startup of the Week: Mind Moose

Startup-of-the-Week

Our Startup of the Week is Mind Moose! An online platform educating children about mental health and how to maintain it. The startup was founded in 2017 by Zoë Ross, a former primary and secondary school teacher turned psychologist, who is passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing. Before starting Mind Moose, Zoë worked on digital education projects with the likes of Google, micro:bit and the BBC.

To date, the startup has raised a total of £65k over the course of two funding rounds, and last year alone was announced as one of BGV’s participating ventures in the Welcome Trust grant, as well as Nesta’s Future Ready Fund grantees, and was selected for Greater Manchester Future of Health Programme.

Mind Moose educates children from the ages of 7 to 12 about their mental health and wellbeing. The platform was built to teach kids how to take care of their minds, and have fun whilst doing it.

Through the Mind Moose platform, children follow the digital moose and his friends as they learn more about their mental health and how to look after it. Both the animations and interactive activities offered throughout the platform have been built on psychological theories, enabling the young users to better manage the ups and downs of life, strengthen their resilience, and feel good about themselves.

Mind Moose teaches children to develop a healthy sense of self-worth, encouraging them to recognise their strengths. It also helps teach users how to manage intense emotions through mindfulness and other techniques, and uses various tools to help instil a positive perspective on life.

Mind Moose state: “The important of Mental health and well-being in children is being increasingly recognised.”

“Children with high levels of well-being are happier, have stronger relationships, are more able to deal with life’s ups and downs and achieve their potential at school. Happier Children = more learning!”

“However, while we teach children how to keep their bodies healthy, we don’t always show them how they can look after their minds, so that’s what Mind Moose does.”

Through colourful animations and fun interactive activities, Mind Moose is helping to raise awareness to the importance of children’s mental health. Visit the Mind Moose website for more information.
