Startup of the Week: HoloMe

Startup-of-the-Week

In a time of socially distanced norms, where virtual presence has somewhat superseded the physical, our Startup of the Week for this week is HoloMe – an augmented reality software developer, enhancing virtual communication experiences by making telepresence more accessible.

Through HoloMe’s technology, the startup can process videos of people and products automatically, and broadcast them in augmented reality. The startup’s life-size, photorealistic holograms can be accessed anywhere via smartphones or devices which are AR-enabled.

HoloMe helps businesses to increase both engagement and conversion with their products through its fun, innovative services. Founder and CEO of HoloMe Janosch Amstutz has described his startup first and foremost as a communications firm, and as a tech company second. The startup is driven by a focus on the psychology of communication, and how to enhance virtual interactions – a focus very apt for now given the current coronavirus pandemic.

HoloMe was founded in 2017 by Amstutz, who turned to the study of psychology and virtual communications when his mother passed away, realigning his life goals, and his career, away from his previous role as a physical commodities trader.

Amstutz claims that London was chosen to launch the augmented reality company due to its mixture of opportunities, impressive talent pool and the size of its ecosystem amongst other things – Silicon Valley, the founder has further commented, being much too challenging to get noticed in amongst a sea of immersive tech companies.

Last year, the company launched a virtual catwalk in partnership with ASOS. Amstutz made the following remarks about their collaboration in a statement:

“By allowing the consumer to bring mobile shopping into their own physical space, we can create a more intimate buying experience”

“We are excited to see how our technology can be used as a new way to communicate to the customer.”

This year, HoloMe was crowned winner of the Business Cloud’s London Tech 50. To date, they have raised a total of $1.8 million in funding over the course of 1 Seed funding round, and currently have a 12-month collaboration with Cisco for a telepresence solution.
