London-based Taster closes $8m Series A funding round

Taster has announced a $8 million Series A funding round, with investment from Battery Ventures, Heartcore Capital, LocalGlobe, Marc Ménasé (Founders Future), along with existing investors. The London-based startup has a range of highly successful delivery-only online restaurant brands.

Anton Soulier founded Taster in 2017, the company creates and operates online restaurant brands available through on-demand food delivery platforms. After being one of Deliveroo’s first employees, Soulier is now seeing his own success in the food delivery space.

Currently operating across London, Paris and Madrid, Taster is seeing 30% growth month-on-month. Today, Taster has a team of 115 and has served more than 400,000 meals.

Taster’s rapid growth can be attributed to the success of its three delivery-only restaurants: Mission Saigon, O Ke Kai, and Out-Fry. By partnering with renowned chefs, Taster has devised three unique dining experiences, priding themselves on quality ingredients, rapid service, and food made for delivery.

The three restaurants deliver their meals using popular food delivery services, such as Deliveroo, UberEATS and Glovo. Meals are prepared in local kitchens, meaning Taster can offer its customers quality food without compromise, delivered in less than 20 minutes on average.

Taster CEO and founder Anton Soulier said: “Since launching Taster just two years ago, we have been bowled over by the incredible reception our restaurants have received; this is testament to the passion and expertise our chefs bring to our kitchens every day, the huge consumer demand for quality food devised and crafted especially for on-demand delivery, and the benefits of a hyper-local business model.

“Delivery platforms are fast becoming the new high street, and the infrastructure is now in place for food to go online; with Taster, we want to build iconic restaurant brands for this new era.”

The investment will be used to recruit new talent, launch three new online restaurant brands, and expand Tasters coverage across Paris, London and Madrid by the end of the year.
