D55 is one of the UK’s leading AWS consultancy partners. We work with businesses of all sizes to build and modernise their applications in the AWS Cloud. We have a team of experts who specialise in Cloud Ops, serverless application development, application modernisation, system architecture, system integration, data lakes and AI/ML.
We founded the business in 2018 in Manchester with a team of just six and now we’re 28 strong. We’re generally sector-agnostic, but we do have a lot of experience working with defence, energy, real money gaming, fintech and proptech businesses.
How did you come up with the idea for the company?
Rhys and I were working as freelance IT consultants for an energy firm, that had asked us to build a B2B energy product. We formed a small team of specialists in Manchester to work on the project, which ended up being a huge success.
As the project wrapped up, we realised we had a team of highly-skilled people with talent that is almost impossible to find in our sector. Collectively, we knew we had unmatched skills that could deliver more than many of the other businesses in our field at the time.
From there, we founded D55 and we couldn’t be more pleased with our success in the past four years. We’ve built an impressive roster of clients and are winning new and exciting work all the time.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?
There are a lot of companies and consultancies in our sector that migrate businesses to the cloud and with 75% of organisations still using some form of on-prem servers it’s no surprise that it continues to be a huge market. However, what we realised, was there was a lack of specialists in the sector who focussed on that next step of a business’ cloud journey once the migration had been done – the application modernisation element. That’s the area we have become known for; making sure businesses’ cloud strategies are cost-effective, viable and suitable for each organisation’s needs.
We work with businesses to ensure their move to and use of the cloud is effective, allowing them to become more agile, make better decisions and integrate technologies like AI and ML into their IT strategies to improve overall company performance.
Over the last 24 months, a big focus for us has been our people. We’re a services business and so having a team with the most up-to-date cloud and system architecture knowledge, allows us to serve our clients as best as we can. Continuously investing in training and development and ensuring all of our consultants are AWS certified or working towards it has been a huge focus for us.
What can we hope to see from D55 in the future?
We finished 2022 on a real high. We achieved 32% year-on-year growth and our client roster is growing all the time. Recruiting and investing in L&D throughout 2023 will be a priority for us to keep up with demand.
I describe 2022 as our year of growing up. 2023 will now be about scaling the business based on the solid foundations we have set over the last 12 to 24 months.
