About Alison Burton, Natalie Duvall and March Muses
March Muses was born out of a heartfelt mission to make the festive season more inclusive. As two Croydon mums, we were inspired by natalied daughter who asked why she couldn’t see decorations that looked like her on the Christmas tree. That simple yet powerful question ignited our journey to create handing decorations that celebrate diversity and representation.
Our journey has not been without challenges. As Black female entrepreneurs in a space where inclusivity is often overlooked, we faced hurdles in getting onto the high street, racist responses, funding difficulties and raising awareness about the importance of representation. But we worked tirelessly to overcome these obstacles.
Despite these challenges, we’ve achieved incredible milestones. Our product range of Black and brown angels and Santa baubles—carefully handmade to reflect diverse skin tones, hair textures, and body shapes—quickly gained recognition. March Muses date stocked in iconic retailers such as Selfridges and Liberty London. In 2022, we pitched on BBC Dragons’ Den and secured £50,000 from Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden, a moment that elevated our brand and mission.
In 2023, we expanded beyond Christmas, collaborating with Tesco to create a new line of diverse festive products. This partnership marked a significant step in turning March Muses into a year-round lifestyle brand. Under our slogan, “Where inspiration meets you every day,” we introduced products that celebrate diversity beyond the Christmas season, including Mother’s Day gifts, candles, mugs, clothing, and water bottles.
Our impact goes beyond sales. Through our work, we have brought joy and inclusion to homes across the UK and beyond. We’ve sparked conversations about representation, empowering white, black and brown families to celebrate traditions that reflects the multicultural country we live in. Additionally, as Black female founders, we are paving the way for future entrepreneurs to see what’s possible, inspiring change not just in homes but in industries that have long overlooked diversity.
March Muses is more than a brand—it’s a movement to ensure that everyone feels seen, celebrated, and included. With every ornament and product, we are helping to reimagine a world where representation is normal and not novelty.
