Google Gemini Now Available For Teens, With More New Features

Gemini has announced the latest update to 1.5 Flash, and their serices are not available in over 230 countries, supporting over 40 languages. This update is an improvement to the free version of Gemini with a faster and more accurate response rates. The update also introduces a 4x larger context window for users to make more complex prompt and chats.

With the new update, users can now upload files directly from their devices or through Google Drive, a feature previously available only in the advanced version. This allows for a more integrated learning and working environment, where users can ask Gemini to generate practice questions from study materials or analyse data files, creating visuals like charts and graphics.

How Gemini Is Combatting AI Hallucinations

To address the ongoing issue of AI hallucinations, Gemini has come with features that make its responses more reliable for users. The release explained, “We’ve also heard that people enjoy exploring new topics with Gemini as their go-to research partner. So we’re now displaying links to related content for fact-seeking prompts in Gemini — continuing our work to reduce hallucinations and making it easier to explore websites that help you learn more.

“Starting today for English language prompts in certain countries, you can access this additional information on topics directly within Gemini’s responses. Just click on the chip at the end of a paragraph to see websites where you can dive deeper on a certain topic. This isn’t limited to websites: If Gemini’s response references information found using the Gmail extension, you’ll also see inline links to relevant emails.

“This builds on our work to combat hallucinations. In addition to related content links, Gemini’s double-check feature verifies responses by using Google Search to highlight which statements are corroborated or contradicted on the web. For information that is contradicted, you can easily dive deeper to verify the information yourself.”

Gemini Available For Teens

Google has made Gemini available to teenagers as well as of 1 August. Teens can now use the AI if they meet the minimum age requirement for a Google account. In the announcement, Google said, “To help teenagers navigate Gemini confidently and safely, we’ve put additional policies and safeguards in place, introduced a teen-specific onboarding process, and included an AI literacy guide.”

When it comes to why they’re doing this, Gemini added, “Gemini is designed to be a helpful tool for teens. It can spark creativity and encourage them to explore their passions. From understanding school subjects to tackling major milestones like preparing for university, Gemini is here to help teens learn and grow.”

Google Hints At Another Launch

In other news, Google has an announcement, saying to keep an eye on their sites on 13 August, because “a whole new era of phones” is coming. They are getting ready to release the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold during their Made by Google event. This event will be showing how AI will be working with their devices across their Android, Gemini and Pixel portfolios.

And that’s not it. Google shared in another blog post that, “We’re making it even easier to search what you see with the power of Google Lens.” They are bringing a new way to interact with desktop content by adding their Lens tool directly into the browser for users to search, analyse and interact with visual content.

All of these useful features are a great way to make sure Google comes out as the go-to platform for using new tech to make the browsing experience more efficient and useful when it comes to output, whether with AI, or with their visual tools.
