35The UPL is designed with multiple purposes: to monitor wear and tear at the prosthetic interface, provide real-time pressure distribution data, monitor prosthetic use and changes to leg diameter. Ultimately, the project seeks to address critical challenges in the prosthetics sector by improving patient comfort and reducing maintenance costs for healthcare providers like NHS England. In the long term, this technology has the potential to expand into other significant markets such as care beds, orthoses, and braces, and to enable new product categories by enhancing motorised prosthetic controls through a continuous feedback loop.
