About Fungai Ndemera and CheckUp health
I am Fungai Ndemera, a multi-entrepreneur, angel investor, business mentor, and STEM ambassador. I founded CheckUp Health and developed, an NHS England-approved, AI-driven multilingual platform based in Wolverhampton, dedicated to transforming primary healthcare and reducing health inequalities. I began this journey in response to the growing shortage of doctors and the impact of COVID-19 on chronic patients, particularly within racially diverse communities.
With 15 million people in the UK living with at least two long-term conditions—expected to rise by another 3 million by 2025—healthcare is under tremendous strain. Treating these conditions accounts for half of all GP appointments, 70% of overnight NHS stays, and £7 out of every £10 spent on health and care.
At CheckUp Health, we’re empowering clinicians and GP administrative teams with tools that improve decision-making and streamline workflows. Developed by a diverse team with over a century of combined experience, our platform offers bespoke AI customisation and multilingual capabilities, making healthcare accessible and inclusive. Overcoming the challenges of scaling and aligning with NHS England’s digital transformation goals, CheckUp Health is now one of the few systems integrated with NHS core systems to support GP practices with Foundation systems
Our platform’s impact extends beyond efficiency in primary care. We offer policymakers and healthcare professionals tools to identify and respond to the unique needs of various ethnic groups, enabling targeted strategies to reduce health disparities. The CheckUp Health app uniquely includes cultural and engagement metrics, enabling GP practices, hospitals, and corporate healthcare providers to support patients from diverse backgrounds effectively.
