MediMusic is a pioneering health-tech startup using music as medicine to transform the way we treat pain, anxiety, and dementia-related stress. Founded with a vision to harness the scientifically proven benefits of music, MediMusic has developed an AI-powered platform that creates personalised 25-minute playlists designed to regulate heart rate variability, reduce cortisol levels, and stimulate positive endocrine responses like dopamine and oxytocin release.

Unlike other music streaming platforms, MediMusic is a B2B service, created for clinicians and healthcare providers, with an ethos rooted in efficacy and measurable outcomes.

MediMusic emerged from a desire, by its co-founder Gary Jones, to blend neuroscience with the healing power of music, grounded in over 25,000 academic titles and 40 years of research extolling the influence of music on the human physiology. From dementia care and pre/post-operative pain management to anxiety reduction in dental patients, MediMusic’s solution is already being trialled across NHS trusts and care homes and music therapy – solving the number one issue with the latter by making it scalable.

Early MVP trials with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust showed a 23–25% reduction in heart rate, demonstrating significant anxiety relief in patients with dementia. These results helped MediMusic gain recognition and entry into the NHS EDOVATION/Medicom accelerator programme, the AHSN Innovation Agency’s Health Matters programme, and Hull University’s Social Care & Innovation initiative. The same trust has since bought the service to run in ICU.

Backing for the company has been strong. MediMusic has secured £1.21 million in pre-seed investment from Anticus Partners, Hull University, and a number of business angels – along with £245,000 in Innovate grant funding. It has also attracted the attention of Universal Music Group, which now holds a stake in the company via its tech incubator, Abbey Road Red and has direct labels deals with all the major music rights holders.

Looking ahead, MediMusic launches commercially in Q4 of 2025 with two music therapy clients representing 22% of the UK market and is not just refining its service but looking to expand globally by opening a U.S. office.
