About Zonova
Zonova is tackling healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) through novel antimicrobial technology. The inspiration for Zonova came from a pivotal conversation between Co-Founder, Dr Georgia Fleet, and an ICU doctor, who highlighted that he thought HAIs were a leading cause of death in his unit. Data shows HAIs affect 1 in 10 patients, and most HAIs are linked to everyday medical devices like IV catheters, breathing tubes and urinary catheters. These device surfaces allow bacteria to grow, leading to devastating infections and complications such as sepsis, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. This issue is compounded by the growing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis; and as antibiotic treatments become less effective, preventing these infections becomes paramount to saving lives.
Enter Zonova – founded in March 2023, we set out to develop an effective, affordable, and scalable antimicrobial technology that could be embedded at the source, and that’s exactly what we have done. Zonova’s antimicrobial technology is embedded directly into the medical devices associated with infections, which creates a protective surface that continuously kills a broad spectrum of pathogens, including the dangerous drug-resistant strains like MRSA.
Our technology is currently in the pilot phase for urinary catheters and IV catheters, to prove we can reduce risk of infection in healthcare, the need for antibiotics and ultimately improve patient outcomes. Zonova provides a new solution in infection control, poised to have a fundamental positive global impact on healthcare.
