About Cadense

Millions of people struggle with walking every day due to neurological conditions, injuries, or age-related mobility changes. This loss of movement often leads to isolation, reduced independence, and a quiet withdrawal from the world around them. Cadense was created to change that. We have built the first truly adaptive shoe designed to help people walk more safely and confidently by addressing one of the most overlooked problems in mobility: the inability to fully lift the foot while taking a step.

Our patented variable friction technology allows wearers to slide safely over obstacles when they cannot clear the ground, and then regain stable grip the moment they put weight down. This simple but powerful shift helps prevent tripping, supports smoother gait mechanics, and reduces fear of movement. No other footwear product functions this way. For many people with foot drop, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke recovery needs, and age-related gait changes, Cadense is the first tool that matches their real-world walking challenges.

We began in 2023 after a decade of research at MIT & the University of California Santa Barbara, where our co-founder, Dr. Tyler Susko developed the science that now powers our shoes. Turning that science into a consumer-ready product required solving complex engineering and design challenges. We needed to create a sole that could adapt in real time without adding weight. We needed a shoe that felt familiar and stylish, yet housed a precise mechanical system inside. And we needed to build a new category of mobility support that people could trust from their first step.

Today, Cadense is one of the fastest-growing mobility brands in the United States and now also in the United Kingdom. More than thirty thousand customers use our shoes in their daily lives, and over five hundred medical professionals recommend Cadense as a tool to support safer walking. Our broader community now includes more than a hundred thousand people who follow our mission of helping individuals reclaim movement and confidence. Cadense technology is currently being studied in a clinical trial at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab funded by the United States National Institutes of Health, focused on safety, stability, and functional improvements.

The most important impact is the human impact. People who once avoided leaving home are walking through parks again. Grandparents are able to move more steadily when playing with their grandchildren. Individuals who feared tripping in their own kitchen now glide smoothly across the floor. Some users have even been able to reduce their reliance on external braces when walking in Cadense shoes. Hearing that someone feels like themselves again because they can walk with less fear is the reason we exist.

Cadense is redefining what footwear can do for human mobility. We are not just creating a new type of shoe. We are building adaptive tools that restore independence, rebuild confidence, and reconnect people with the world around them. Our mission is simple and powerful: help people walk without limits.
