About Trustd

Supply chain operators face building compliance headaches: from onboarding new carriers, to auditing their existing base, to verifying who exactly is turning up on site. Manual processes create friction and slow down operations in an industry that demands agility.

Trustd is solving this by pioneering government certified digital identity for transport and logistics. Founded in 2019 by Lyall Cresswell, who also established TEG, Trustd answers the critical question: “Who’s handling my freight?”

The compliance blind spot

Traditional identity verification in logistics is dangerously outdated. Businesses rely on photocopied documents, unverifiable PDFs, and the hope that master subcontractors have properly checked their workers. These documents become unverifiable the moment they’re created, insurance expires, licences lapse, but the photocopies remain in circulation.

As operators face increasing scrutiny across their supply base, from right-to-work compliance to employment status verification, Trustd provides the digital infrastructure to demonstrate due diligence at scale.

Manual compliance processes force national 3PLs to restrict supplier networks to a small number of audited partners. This constraint creates capacity bottlenecks and limits operational flexibility. Trustd’s automated verification enables 3PLs to safely expand their supplier base—unlocking network resilience, faster capacity matching, and stronger sustainability performance.

Trustd has built the first DIATF accredited digital identity platform specifically for transport and logistics, positioning it among just 53 organisations in the UK with government certification as a digital identity provider. Unlike generic verification tools, Trustd digitises the exact documents and credentials this sector requires, from operator licences and driver qualifications to right-to-work status, into secure, verifiable profiles that workers control and can share selectively with employers and partners.

Across the logistics sector, there’s minimal oversight of who actually turns up at warehouse gates. Operators rely on document checks, but have no way to confirm the person collecting freight is who they claim to be. With loads regularly subcontracted two or three tiers deep, verifying the identity of the driver collecting high-risk freight is nearly impossible, creating exposure for both security breaches and liability claims.

Trustd’s Secure Collect technology secures the supply chain by moving verification beyond compliance paperwork. Using facial recognition and location verification, it confirms an authorised person is collecting freight at the right place and time. For high risk cargo, the platform leverages biometric driver profiles to ensure shipments are secured to the right operator, preventing impersonation and ensuring complete traceability.

Proven impact and future vision

Over 10,000 verified businesses across the UK, Europe, and US now use Trustd profiles. One third of the 15 million right-to-work checks performed annually by UK businesses already use DIATF accredited platforms, demonstrating the technology works at scale.

Transport and logistics lags behind other sectors in digitalisation, particularly around identity and compliance. The consequences are mounting: £60,000 fines per illegal worker, operational disruption, reputational damage, and increasing regulatory scrutiny. The UK Government has set a 2029 deadline for mandatory digital ID for right-to-work checks, making Trustd’s approach increasingly essential.

Beyond compliance, Trustd is building the infrastructure for transactional identity in logistics. The vision extends to verifiable credentials in partnership with insurance providers and driver management tools.

Founder Lyall Cresswell saw how fragmented, paper-based identity systems created blind spots and constrained collaboration across supply chains. Trustd was built to solve this: purpose-built identity infrastructure for logistics’ highly collaborative, fragmented ecosystem.

Trustd represents more than regulatory compliance. It’s pioneering the standard for digital identity in global logistics, demonstrating that speed and security aren’t competing priorities when designed properly – digital identity verification enhances both.
