The World Health Organisation reports that about 1 in 6 people experience infertility around the world, which in real terms is around 48 million couples.
In the UK, infertility can be a battle. Waitlists for NHS tests can be long, and couples only get 1-3 cycles fully funded, depending on their age and health.
The Global Fertility Picture
Worldwide, the story is just as difficult. In the U.S., the average cost of one IVF cycle is $21,600, but many couples need multiple cycles to successfully fall pregnant.
This has not only led to couples travelling abroad to explore fertility treatments, but also a number of startups setting out to help.
Here, we take a look at the companies that are revolutionising fertilitech, helping couples understand and support their fertility from home.
Let’s take a look…
Natural Cycles

Natural Cycles is already a well-known name in the world of women’s health and fertility as the company behind NC° Birth Control, the first FDA-cleared birth control app.
Through Natural Cycles, users are able to track their ‘fertile’ days using basal body temperature. This can work for both fertility and contraception, using biology instead of synthetic hormones.
More recently, Natural Cycles released the NC° Band, a new wearable designed to make fertility tracking easier. By wearing the band around their wrist at night, women are able to take more accurate temperature readings to inform the algorithm.
ExSeed
![]()
A lot of the time, fertility testing focuses on the woman, but male factor infertility can affect couples up to 50% of the time. Exseed health is helping combat this with their CE-certified at-home sperm test, which provides WHO-standard, results on total motile sperm count, sperm concentration, and progressive motility instantly.
This information, combined with education around lifestyle changes, allows men to test their results with over 95% accuracy compared with in-clinic tests.

Level Zero Health
![]()
Tracking hormones and working out underlying fertility blockers is one of the hardest parts of fertility testing. However, Level Zero is taking on this challenge with their wearable DNA-based hormone monitoring device, which is able to track hormones consistently.
With high accuracy data and real-time insights, the company is helping women collect data that is invaluable for fertility tracking and IVF monitoring.
Fertilysis
![]()
Fertilysis is a Greek startup that has gained a lot of media attention for its work with celebrity couples struggling with infertility. As a headline, Fertilysis believes that ‘unexplained infertility’ is not a diagnosis, but a prompt to explore further.
Through their platform, Fertilysis offers a number of at-home tests that focus on wider fertility markers like the microbiome and gene testing to better understand fertility blockers.
Their at-home test kit is able to be used anywhere, with their clinic in Greece acting as a base for clinical testing and further fertility exploration.
Hertility
![]()
Hertility is a company setting out to help women with more accessible and affordable at-home hormone testing. As part of the service, every report is followed up with a call by a registered clinician, helping customers understand their results and dive deeper into their hormone markers.
For those who flag results that need further investigation, Hertility allows users to book ultrasounds and other deeper diagnostic tests all though their platform.
By making hormone testing more accessible, Hertility is helping women make more informed decisions about their fertility sooner.
Mira
Mira has created an at-home hormone tracker using similar technology to what is used in labs. Not just designed for those tracking fertility, Mira also helps women track symptoms related to menopause or PCOS, in order to better understand their hormones.
Through the device, women are able to track their monthly hormone fluctuations with highly accurate results.
For those looking for fertility support, Mira’s tech allows them to track and catch their ovulation window more accurately, leading to a higher chance of successful conception.
ExamenLabs
![]()
Examen Labs is a men’s fertility company that uses sperm DNA fragmentation tests to work out what might be causing infertility or miscarriage.
As sperm DNA can significantly impact conception success and increase the risk of miscarriage, Examen labs is able to look deeper into the DNA to find out ‘why’ fertility might be blocked.
Carea
![]()
Carea is a pregnancy and postpartum wellbeing app taking a mother-first approach to supporting women’s mental health. As part of its ongoing mission, it has recently announced that it is launching its new “Trying to Conceive” mode. This will support women from the very start of their fertility journeys and has been specially designed for those going through IVF, IUI or egg freezing.
One of the most difficult realities of fertility treatment is that many clinics are stretched thin. Despite the financial and emotional toll IVF takes, patients often receive limited information and little emotional support. Carea addresses this by offering educational resources created with a fertility specialist to help women stay organised and supported throughout their cycle.
