About Dr. Georgia Fleet
I founded Zonova in 2023 to combat one of global health’s most critical threats: hospital acquired infections. My journey began with conversation with a critical care doctor who described these infections as the leading cause of death in the intensive care unit, often caused by the devices used to deliver essential medication, blood or fluids. Realising the severity and scale of the problem and the lack of commercial options, I founded Zonova to create a solution: affordable, scalable and effective antimicrobial technology embedded within medical devices.
2025 has been a year of massive momentum for Zonova. We hit a major technical milestones by expanding the scientific evidence base behind our technology and by proving efficacy against fungi, alongside the most common bacteria associated with hospital acquired infections. We’ve also expanded the proof-of-concept for our technology into a wider range of clinical applications including orthopaedic implants, pessaries, surgical drapes and different types of catheters.
One of our proudest moments was seeing our vision move into the real world; we successfully manufactured and sterilised our first Zonova-branded catheters, which have now progressed to pilot studies and are being used in real world settings for the first time. To support this growth, we’ve also been busy strengthening our intellectual property, filing new patents as we expand our technology across new devices and modes of manufacturing. It’s been incredible to see just how versatile our technology is becoming, with the scale of impact across different risk areas of infection. We’ve also been working hard to develop our deal pipeline, through our licensing business model to enable quicker route to market to deliver impact. By shifting the industry away from antibiotic dependence, we are creating a more sustainable future for infection control.
Looking ahead through 2026, we are focused on securing high-level licensing partnerships with industry leaders to scale our impact globally. Beyond technology, I remain deeply committed to promoting diversity in STEM. By mentoring young women and providing opportunities for them to explore careers in innovation, I am ensuring that Zonova not only saves lives but also inspires the next generation of female leaders in tech.
Through Zonova, I am proud to be leading the way in a critical area of health innovation and working to create a future where infection prevention is no longer reliant on antibiotics but instead driven by smarter, more sustainable solutions.
