About Anna Berger

Trayd was founded in 2022 after Anna Berger spent time working in her fathers construction back office and experienced the inefficiencies firsthand. She was responsible for running payroll, reviewing worker hours, and filing compliance reports through manual processes and disconnected systems. Errors were common, compliance was stressful, and there was no software built specifically for specialty contractors. Anna realized that despite the two trillion dollar size of the US construction industry, there was no verticalized payroll and back office operating system designed for the trades. She decided to build it.

In the earliest days, one of the biggest hurdles was validating that the problem was as widespread as she believed. Anna spoke directly with contractors across trades to understand their workflows, compliance pain points, and payroll complexities. The feedback was consistent. Most were relying on spreadsheets, generic payroll tools, or multiple siloed platforms that did not communicate with each other. Building a product that could handle union payroll, certified payroll reporting, multi state compliance, and workforce management in one streamlined system required deep industry research and careful product development.

Another early challenge was earning trust in an industry that has traditionally been slow to adopt new technology. Construction is relationship driven, and payroll is mission critical. Contractors needed to be confident that a new platform could support their crews accurately and reliably. Anna and her team focused intensely on customer feedback, hands on onboarding, and building a product centered on payroll and compliance from day one. Raising venture capital for a construction focused software company also required strong conviction. In 2023, Trayd raised 4.5 million dollars in seed funding led by Suffolk Technologies with participation from Bloomberg Beta and Y Combinator, providing the capital to scale the platform and team in New York City.

Today, Trayd is transforming how specialty contractors manage their people and back office operations. By replacing fragmented systems with an all in one platform for payroll, HR, and compliance, the company helps contractors reduce errors, improve visibility, and unlock opportunities for growth. Under Annas leadership, Trayd is modernizing a critical but overlooked part of the construction industry and building the infrastructure that empowers trade businesses to operate more efficiently and competitively.
