About Island

Island was founded in August 2020 with a bold premise: the browser had become the primary workspace for modern enterprises, yet it was never designed for work. Instead of continuing to layer security tools around a consumer browser, Island reimagined the browser itself as an enterprise-grade platform, embedding security, IT, productivity, and now AI directly into the place where work happens.

Enterprises were deeply invested in legacy architectures built around VPNs, virtual desktops, and layered security tools. Replacing this fragmented model required not only technical differentiation, but a fundamentally better way to deliver work. Island addressed this by collapsing multiple technologies into a single, secure workspace, simplifying operations while improving both security and user experience.

This foundation positioned Island to play a critical role in the rise of AI in the enterprise. As generative and agentic AI tools rapidly enter the workplace, organisations face a new dilemma: how to enable innovation without exposing sensitive data or losing governance. Island transformed this challenge into an opportunity by making the browser the control plane for AI usage.

Through its integrated AI capabilities, Island provides deep visibility into how employees interact with AI applications, including which tools are used, how often, and what types of data are shared. This allows organisations to move from blind or scattershot adoption to informed, policy-driven AI usage. Granular controls enforce boundaries in real time, preventing sensitive information such as financial data, source code, or personal records from being entered into unapproved models, while still enabling productivity and creativity.

Island also introduced an AI browser that is context-aware and enterprise-aligned, delivering AI assistance without exposing proprietary data to external models. This ensures that organisations can benefit from AI-driven productivity while maintaining strict data governance. At the same time, Island enables administrators to guide users toward approved AI tools, redirecting activity away from unsanctioned services and risky browser extensions while embedding real-time, custom feedback directly into the user experience.

Beyond individual features, Island is shaping how enterprises operationalise AI at scale. Its architecture embeds protection at the last mile, where users, applications, data, and AI intersect. This approach eliminates the gaps left by traditional network-based controls and creates a unified layer for visibility, governance, and enforcement across all web and AI activity. Organisations can safely extend AI access to employees, contractors, and partners on any device, without sacrificing control or compliance.

Today, Island stands at the forefront of the AI transformation of work. By redefining the browser as both a secure workspace and an intelligent control layer for AI, the company has put end users first while giving CIOs and CISOs the governance and auditing they require. Island allows enterprises to adopt AI with confidence, scale innovation responsibly, and move beyond the tradeoff between productivity and security.
