A career in organic medicinal mushroom cultivation does not usually lead to a water-treatment company. For Christian Schmaus, however, the connection is not the product itself. It is the process behind it.

Schmaus is the co-founder of Dropvital, a Swiss-engineered water-treatment brand serving households and professional partners across the DACH region. MycoVital is a family-owned company based in Limeshain, near Frankfurt, and is led by Schmaus as Managing Director. The company cultivates and processes its organic medicinal mushrooms in Germany and currently offers fourteen pure mushroom varieties and more than sixty specially formulated blends.

Dropvital’s nano systems follow a more selective approach. Their nanoporous active membrane operates down to 0.002 micrometres while retaining naturally occurring minerals such as calcium and magnesium. The filtration is designed to reduce undesirable substances, including PFAS, without unnecessarily stripping the water of its natural mineral profile.

The nano-tap applies this technology directly at the water outlet. It requires neither electricity nor a separate tap and was recognised with the Green Product Award 2026 for combining filtration performance, mineral retention, straightforward installation and resource-conscious design.

Dropvital uses the same principle of targeted treatment in its approach to limescale. The soft-home and nano-soft-home systems use patented, bio-based malic-acid technology to stabilise the scale-forming minerals without replacing calcium and magnesium with sodium. The minerals remain in the water, while the tendency of limescale to form persistent deposits is substantially reduced. The systems operate without regeneration salt, electricity or wastewater.

For customers seeking a purely physical approach, Dropvital also offers seed-crystal technology. Dropvital’s approach has already received external recognition.

In 2026, the company’s “Always by your side” concept was named a winner at the German Innovation Award in both the Household Appliances and Circular Impacts categories. The nano-tap also received the Green Product Award 2026, while Dropvital was certified through the Handwerker Award and TopBetrieb Award processes.

These distinctions reflect more than a single filtration claim. They recognise a broader combination of product design, user value, sustainability and practical implementation.

Schmaus did not move from medicinal mushrooms into water treatment because the two product categories are similar. He did so because of the underlying quality problem.
