About KatRisk

KatRisk is a catastrophe risk modelling and technology company helping insurers, reinsurers, governments and financial institutions better understand and manage the financial impact of natural disasters.

KatRisk was built by catastrophe risk and insurance specialists who saw an opportunity to make sophisticated risk modelling more flexible, transparent and accessible. The company has developed a technology platform that combines catastrophe models, hazard data and portfolio analytics, allowing organisations to assess their exposure to major natural hazards and make more informed underwriting, pricing and risk management decisions.

A major challenge in catastrophe modelling has historically been the complexity and rigidity of the technology. Risk teams often depend on highly specialised models and systems that can be difficult to adapt as new science, data and risks emerge. KatRisk has taken a different approach, developing an agile and model-agnostic platform that allows clients to incorporate multiple views of risk and their own data within a single environment.

Today, KatRisk provides catastrophe models covering inland flood, storm surge, tropical cyclone wind, severe convective storm, wildfire and earthquake, with models spanning approximately 100 countries. Its technology is designed to translate complex scientific data into information that insurers and other organisations can use in real-world risk decisions.

KatRisk has also expanded how its technology can be accessed. Its models are available through Verisk Model Exchange, while support for Oasis open data standards enables customers to integrate KatRisk science into existing catastrophe modelling workflows rather than adopting an entirely separate technology stack.

The company continues to invest in emerging areas of catastrophe risk. In 2026, KatRisk introduced a new US wildfire model powered by Technosylva that combines physics-based wildfire behaviour science with KatRisk financial modelling and portfolio analytics. The platform can calculate losses across event sets exceeding 50,000 years in seconds, giving insurers faster access to detailed risk intelligence.

KatRisk ultimately aims to make catastrophe risk technology more open, adaptable and useful as natural hazards and the financial risks associated with them continue to evolve.
