About Spa Communications
Spa Communications was founded in 2003 and has become a specialist within the data centre, AI and digital infrastructure spaces, delivering integrated PR, content marketing, social media and podcasting services to customers across the UK and Europe.
During the last six years, the company has grown from three people to more than 20 working from its UK headquarters, with agency partnerships established in the USA and APAC.
During the last six years, the agency has grown from a six-figure business to a multi-million-pound organisation and is now recognised as Europe’s leading agency for digital infrastructure, working with many of its most high-profile start-up, scale-up and Fortune 500 businesses.
The agency’s journey over the last six years has also been one of tenacity and resilience, led by its Managing Director, Rory Flashman, Client Services & Operations Director, Charlotte Wood and the wider management team. During that time, Spa has established new service lines, launched new premises and onboarded both new clients and team members, all while maintaining the strong culture of care, which comes from being a family-owned business.
From a team retention standpoint, the agency has created dedicated career pathways; developed AI training and literacy programs. Additionally, to ensure staff wellbeing is prioritised, the agency has worked with the mental health charity, MIND, to train three dedicated Mental Health First Aiders. These initiatives combined have led to a 90% staff retention rate and culture is one of the company’s biggest assets.
One of the biggest challenges the digital infrastructure industry faces is negative sentiment and growing opposition from local communities. To help address this, the agency has worked with clients to deliver community engagement campaigns alongside public affairs partners and has pioneered industry initiatives such as National Data Centre Day (NCDC) – an awareness day designed to improve public understanding of data centres, address the skills shortage and demonstrate the role they play in society.
NCDC has secured more than 60 industry supporters, reached more than 25,000 LinkedIn users and generated more than 200 campaign-related social posts, becoming a unifying initiative focused on awareness, education and attracting talent, while creating greater understanding among policymakers and the public.
Recently, NCDC has established a partnership with STEM Learning to encourage members of the industry to become STEM Ambassadors, working with local schools and colleges to engage students and share career pathways.
Spa Communications’ culture of continuous learning has also played a pivotal role in its record for delivering exceptional results. Its onboarding processes, which include deep discovery and a commitment to fully understanding the clients’ business models and commercial objectives, have been vital to bridging the gap between sales and marketing – making PR and social media key drivers of commercial outcomes.
This approach has also been instrumental in helping clients achieve exceptional media coverage, with many featuring regularly on Bloomberg, CNBC, Reuters, Sky News, The FT, Sunday Times and Business Post and more recently, TV shows like BBC Countryfile and ITV News.
