About  Salt Security

Salt Security was founded in 2016 with a specific focus: protecting the APIs that power modern business. In the years since, the company has grown into the leading platform for agentic and API security, protecting innovative enterprises from AI agent and API-based attacks.

The problem Salt Security was built to solve is fundamental. APIs are the connective tissue of modern software. Every transaction, data exchange, and digital service depends on them. As businesses have deployed AI agents to automate work, those agents operate almost entirely through APIs, creating an attack surface that is growing faster than most security teams can manage manually.

The Salt Agentic Security Platform discovers every AI agent, MCP server, and API operating in an environment; maps the connections and permissions between them; monitors agent behavior at runtime; and closes vulnerabilities before they reach production. The platform includes Salt Workflows, which moves security teams from detection to automated enforcement, blocking threats, revoking risky access, and triggering remediation across the tools organizations already use.

A central part of the industry contribution Salt Security has made comes through Salt Labs, a dedicated threat research division. Salt Labs researchers have uncovered critical vulnerabilities in some of the most widely used platforms and services globally, including major consumer and enterprise applications. Working through responsible disclosure, the team has helped affected organizations resolve issues before they could be exploited at scale. This research has shaped how the broader security community understands API and agentic attack techniques, and findings are published regularly to help security teams stay ahead of emerging threats.

In 2026, Salt Security published the State of Agentic AI and API Security report, drawing on responses from more than 380 security and technology professionals. The research found that nearly half of enterprises had confirmed or suspected that an AI agent had taken an unauthorized action in the past year. Fewer than one in five organizations had the ability to automatically stop a misbehaving agent. The report has become a key reference point for how the industry is measuring readiness for the agentic era.

Salt Security is backed by Sequoia Capital, S Capital, Tenaya Capital, Salesforce Ventures, and Advent International. In 2026, the company was recognized by Cyber Defense Magazine across three categories in its Top InfoSec Innovators awards.

As AI reshapes how businesses operate, the attack surface has shifted from static systems to dynamic, autonomous agents that can take consequential actions across multiple systems without human oversight. Salt Security is building the infrastructure that governs what those agents do and holds them accountable at every step.
