About Dr Jane Jin
Dr. Jane Jin is the Co-Founder and COO of OXCCU, an Oxford University spinout combining CO2 with H2 and renewable electricity to create sustainable fuels and materials. With over a decade of expertise in climate technology and IP commercialisation, Jane’s career has focused on bridging academia and industry to bring impactful tech solutions to market. Before founding OXCCU, Jane served as the ClimateTech Lead at Oxford University Innovation, where she built a foundation for her entrepreneurial journey, helping spinouts navigate the challenges of early-stage development. Jane, who is of BAME heritage, holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge.
Jane’s entrepreneurial journey started in her third year of undergraduate studies, where she undertook an industrial placement at Pfizer, sparking her interest in the intersection of science and commercialisation. This early exposure was pivotal, teaching her how scientific breakthroughs are transformed into products with real-world impact. Through her work at Oxford, she gained extensive experience leading climate-focused initiatives, a role that ultimately inspired her to co-found OXCCU in 2021 alongside three Oxford academics.
Raising enough money to support a CapEX-intensive cleantech business is not easy. Jane and the team at OXCCU have swiftly gained traction. Backed by an £18 million Series A funding round and a £2.8 million government grant, the company is well-positioned to scale SAF solutions that address the pressing needs of the aviation industry. Jane managed to double the size of the team from about 10 people in 2023 to 21 full-time employees in 2024 and they recently launched their first demonstration plant at Oxford Airport which is producing fuel at a 40% higher conversion rate.
Jane’s philosophy of entrepreneurship is rooted in creating lasting societal impact. She sees OXCCU as an opportunity to convert scientific potential into tangible environmental benefits, specifically in decarbonising a traditionally carbon-intensive industry. Being a woman in climate tech, Jane is committed to supporting younger generations, particularly those from minority backgrounds, to feel confident in their ability to make their mark in science.
As an invited speaker and business judge, Jane spent time in 2023 supporting the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Leadership programme at Oxford University, where she mentored graduates from developing and emerging economies In addition, Jane has also been involved in several female entrepreneurship programmes in Cambridge, London and Oxford, including EnterpriseWISE, RisingWISE, and most recently, she joined the Sustainable Women Network to support female start-up founders.
Jane’s vision for OXCCU is to develop the world’s lowest cost Power-to-Liquids pathway, enabling people to continue to fly and use hydrocarbon products but with a reduced climate impact. Her dedication to mentorship, especially in climate tech, and her commitment to empowering young people and underrepresented groups to explore impactful careers are foundational to OXCCU’s growth. As the company expands, OXCCU is set to play a pivotal role in leading sustainable fuel production and beyond, offering a resilient path towards global sustainability goals.
