Cambridge Spectacle Co redefines eyewear by creating beautifully designed spectacles in-house via their Cambridge design headquarters and offering eye exams in store that can be booked seamlessly online.
The startup was founded in 2021 by Ahmed Ejaz, a UK-born Optometrist of Pakistani heritage. Ahmed felt after 10 years working as an Optometrist, that he could offer consumers a new and alternative choice to the big fashion houses who had dominated the spectacles industry. He set about to create quality eyewear, cutting out designers to pass savings to consumers. Each pair of spectacles is modelled and influenced in design by a place or person in Cambridge, England.
A year into the venture, ASDA agreed a nationwide deal for the brand to supply the supermarkets 157 stores. The spectacles sold out within weeks leading to challenges in supply which the startup quickly overcame.
In 2023, the brand ventured into own-store Opticians and opened the first location in Cheltenham. Celebrities such as Ian Wright and Dom Jolly now wear the spectacles and the startup is now opening more locations across the UK.
Ahmed continues to work on the brand with a team that has now expanded to 15 staff members and numerous experienced Angel investors.
