AI agents are increasingly being given responsibility for tasks that would traditionally have required entire teams of people. But as businesses hand more work over to AI, another question to consider is how you make sure those systems are actually doing the right thing.
That’s the thinking behind the latest release from Akeneo, which has announced a new range of AI-powered product data capabilities alongside additional security and governance controls designed for enterprise businesses.
The company’s Autumn Release 2026, announced on 29 October, aims to help organisations automate more of their product data operations while keeping people firmly in control of what AI systems can access, change and publish. The announcement also comes alongside Akeneo’s acquisition of Dataggo, an AI-native Product Information Management (PIM) services specialist, which the company says will strengthen its ability to support complex enterprise deployments.
Giving AI Agents More Responsibility
Akeneo’s latest release builds on its existing agentic capabilities, extending AI-powered automation across product modelling, supplier data management and ecommerce.
One of the headline additions is the integration of Ziggy, Akeneo’s agentic orchestrator, with Shopify. The technology helps businesses prepare and publish product information to their online storefronts, with two versions of the Shopify connector available. That is, Standard, for businesses operating up to three stores, and Enterprise, for organisations managing larger multi-store operations.
The release also introduces AI-assisted Product Model Suggestions, which can recommend ways to group and structure products within a catalogue. This is intended to help businesses organise large volumes of product information more consistently.
Supplier management is another area receiving attention. New capabilities within Akeneo Supplier Data Manager aim to reduce the manual work involved in collecting and organising information from suppliers, with Supplier Collaboration and Supplier Catalog Management helping turn supplier contributions into structured product data.
Meanwhile, PX Insights will automatically analyse how products are being discovered and assess their readiness for AI-driven discovery. As more consumers turn to AI assistants and agents to research products, businesses need their product information to be accurate, structured and accessible to these systems.

Keeping Enterprise AI Under Control
However, giving AI agents more responsibility also introduces new challenges, particularly when they’re working with information that influences pricing, compliance and brand reputation.
Akeneo says its new capabilities operate within a domain-specific AI harness, providing the permissions, context and governance needed to keep automated activity accountable. For instance, Ziggy operates within the same role-based permissions as human employees. Its actions are recorded as traceable changes, with proposed updates requiring human approval before they’re applied.
The release also introduces Enterprise Access and Security Governance, which automates user access through Just-in-Time provisioning and SCIM. This means employees can receive appropriate access through their corporate identity, while access can be revoked when someone leaves the organisation.
Additional security features include SIEM connectivity, which allows product information management activity to be monitored through enterprise security operations, as well as single sign-on and multi-factor authentication for suppliers.
Akeneo is also introducing transparent AI labelling, helping businesses identify which product content has been generated by AI and which has been validated by a person.

Improving Product Data Quality
Beyond security, the release focuses on making sure product information meets the requirements of different businesses and sales channels.
New Readiness Policies allow organisations to define what makes a product ready for a particular market, channel or business objective. Rather than simply checking whether information is complete, businesses can establish rules around product values, categories, descriptions and relationships.
Product Compatibility is another addition, allowing businesses to define rules connecting products with relevant spare parts and accessories. This could help companies managing extensive catalogues avoid relying on complicated spreadsheets to keep compatibility information up to date.
Akeneo Acquires Dataggo
Alongside the product announcements, Akeneo has acquired Dataggo, a long-standing partner specialising in AI-native PIM integration and enterprise services. The acquisition is intended to strengthen Akeneo’s ability to deliver complex implementations and connect its platform with the wider systems businesses already use. The Autumn Release 2026 became available on 28 October, although access to individual features depends on the Akeneo Product Cloud edition.
Ultimately, the announcement reflects a wider shift in enterprise AI adoption. Businesses increasingly want AI agents to take on more operational work, but automation alone isn’t enough. As these systems become more deeply embedded in everyday business processes, having the right permissions, oversight and accountability in place will be just as important as what the technology can actually do.
