Pentest People was founded on bringing the benefits of Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS) to organisations. Its approach to security testing combines the benefits of a consultant-led penetration test and vulnerability assurance through the technologically advanced SecurePortal, providing a living threat system to businesses and providing services to over 2,300 organisations.
SecurePortal enables businesses to regularly and consistently test their IT environments. While annual penetration tests ensure compliance, they are insufficient against cyber criminals. By leveraging frontline security experience and addressing daily challenges, the team delivers world-class, integrated security risk management solutions that turn security data into actionable intelligence. The portal simplifies and automates regulatory compliance, giving network managers peace of mind that their IT environments are fully protected.
Pentest People’s success has seen the team grow to over 100 people with a second office close to Government Communications Headquarters’ (GCHQ’s) cyber security hub in Cheltenham. Since its launch in 2018, it has taken on new talent through various schemes to develop the platform further that have seen the company take on over seven apprentices and graduates a year to support local jobseekers to gain employment in cyber security.
Its apprenticeship and training programs have successfully nurtured graduates and apprentices into full-time employees. Notably, within just 10 months, two of these graduates joined our National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) approved CHECK penetration testing team – a significant achievement.
In July ‘23, Pentest People ranked 87 in The Sunday Times 100, recognising it as one of Britain’s fastest-growing private companies. It was also featured in the first UK Fast Growth 50 Index for the North of England, securing the 27th position.
In November 2022, the company became one of the first companies in the UK to be accepted onto the CREST OWASP Verification Standard (OVS) for application security testing due to SecurePortals advanced capabilities. The accreditation enables Pentest People to provide its customers with the highest-level of in-depth application security assessments and ensures rigorous web application testing is conducted to the criteria and methods consistently applied throughout the cyber security industry.
Pentest People’s success has also enabled it to invest and launch new services such as the Cyber Security Incident Response Plan (CSIRP) which uses industry-leading techniques and protocols to help businesses in the case of a breach/cyber attack. The service helps relieve the burden of reacting to an attack, utilising expertise to reduce the damage and downtime.
Most recently, the company was acquired by The GRC Group, a leading provider of software and tech-enabled services to manage business risks and regulatory compliance.
Looking ahead, the company aims to continue its organic growth, maintain high customer satisfaction, and nurture young talent by offering apprenticeships and jobs. It is also committed to educating the community on cyber security to ensure a safer society.
