Backed Finance is a Swiss-based fintech company founded in early 2021 by Adam Levi, Roberto Klein, and Yehonatan Goldman. The company specialises in tokenising real-world assets (RWAs), such as stocks and ETFs, by issuing fully backed ERC-20 tokens that represent these assets on the blockchain. Operating under the Swiss DLT Act, Backed ensures that each token is legally enforceable and backed 1:1 by the corresponding real-world security, held by licensed custodians.
Backed’s mission is to bridge traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralised finance (DeFi) by providing a compliant and efficient platform for asset tokenisation. The company has developed a suite of services tailored for financial institutions, including Tokenized Trackers for public securities, Tokenized Actively Managed Certificates (AMCs) for blockchain-based investment strategies, and a comprehensive Tokenization Platform for the creation, management, and distribution of tokenised investment products.
Since its inception, Backed has expanded its ecosystem to support native token issuance on multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, Polygon, Gnosis, and others. Its tokens are utilised by various DeFi projects, enhancing liquidity and accessibility in the digital asset space.
In April 2024, Backed Finance secured $9.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Gnosis, with participation from investors such as Exor Seeds, Cyber Fund, Mindset Ventures, Stake Capital Ventures, Blockchain Founders Fund, Blue Bay Capital, and Nonce Classic. The funding aims to accelerate the company’s private tokenisation offerings and onboard asset managers to blockchain solutions.
Last month, Backed unveiled xStocks — a new line of over 55 tokenised stocks and ETFs, launching on Kraken and integrated with Solana’s best DeFi apps.
