About FutureBARBADOS – FutureHEALTH
FutureHEALTH, a health tech incubator based in Barbados, seeks to empower entrepreneurs to develop innovative, technology-driven solutions that the world’s health systems urgently require.
Aiming to build a strong foundation for technology-enabled, citizen-centric healthcare, the initiative invites healthcare professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs and the wider Barbadian community to reshape the future of healthcare in Barbados and beyond.
FutureHEALTH will help healthcare start-ups at every stage of their development to launch and scale transformative health tech solutions that address the world’s most urgent healthcare challenges. This includes fostering knowledge exchange and innovation supported by policy reforms and in collaboration with regional, diaspora, and global actors.
Launched in June 2025 by FutureBARBADOS, a government-backed think tank, and IDB Lab, the innovation unit of the Inter-American Development Bank, FutureHEALTH comprises three core pillars:
• FutureHEALTH Incubator: Working with innovators and entrepreneurs to transform promising healthcare ideas into real-world solutions, leveraging its network and resources to ensure the provision of tools, guidance and support.
• FutureHEALTH Engine Working alongside key stakeholders, industry leaders and policymakers, using data-driven insights and research to advocate for smart policy changes that will create a robust, responsive healthcare ecosystem.
• FutureHEALTH Communities: Creating connections and sharing knowledge via university programs, panel discussions, public events and educational content and campaigns, to ensure that everyone is equipped with the knowledge to champion health technology.
As part of the initiative, the pilot Health Tech Fellow Program was launched this summer. This is an immersive four- to six-week internship that will expose students and recent graduates from the University of the West Indies to the dynamic world of global health Medtech.
FutureHEALTH’s strategic positioning in Barbados serves as both a hub and a gateway to other markets across the Caribbean, Latin America, and the African diaspora, developing a healthtech ecosystem with tailored solutions for us by us. It is a demonstration lab for the strength of a small island developing state being at the centre point of technology creation and adoption.
FutureBARBADOS plays a critical role in aligning the project with national priorities, facilitating public-sector engagement, and ensuring policy alignment to enable the growth of the health tech sector.
