About Agreena

Agreena is the largest soil carbon programme in Europe, enabling farmers to transition to regenerative agriculture and sequester carbon at scale. Founded in 2018, Agreena has rapidly grown to partner with thousands of farmers across 4.5 million hectares of arable land in 20 European markets.

By combining cutting-edge technology, including advanced satellite imagery, AI, and field-level data collection, Agreena supports farmers in restoring soil health, improving crop resilience, and reducing environmental impact. At the same time, it enables businesses to achieve their sustainability goals by either decarbonising their supply chains or accessing high-quality, independently verified carbon credits for offsetting residual emissions.

Through supporting farmers with regenerative agriculture, Agreena is at the forefront of driving positive climate impact. By 2050, for example, implementing regenerative agriculture practices could sequester 120 billion tonnes of CO2 (BCG), three or four times the world’s annual emissions.

Due to its vast impact potential, soil carbon sequestration is an emerging and increasingly important component of the voluntary carbon market. However, it has faced challenges related to measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) processes as well as the need for standards and regulations to ensure credibility.

Agreena is overcoming these challenges with a scalable MRV solution and through its Verra registered AgreenaCarbon project. Digital MRV technologies are essential for tracking and validating regenerative farming’s environmental benefits at scale and cost effectively.

Equally, the industry has been presented with questions around transitioning farmers to regenerative practices, often being met with skepticism regarding the financial benefits and long-term viability of such methods.

However, by offering a clear and transparent process – leveraging Verra-verified carbon credits, and market-leading digital MRV technology with real-time monitoring at field-specific granularity – Agreena provides farmers with the data and support needed to adopt regenerative practices successfully.

The AgreenaCarbon Project is the first large-scale agricultural cropland project to be registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard VM0042 methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management. This project helps farmers across 10 markets to monetise their sustainability efforts by generating and trading high-quality Verra credits.

Looking ahead, Agreena aims to expand the reach of its soil carbon programme, building on its rapid growth from 2 million to 4.5 million hectares in just a year.

To drive the global adoption of regenerative agriculture, Agreena is focused on scaling its digital MRV technology and increasing its partnerships. As agriculture remains one of the largest sectors for climate mitigation potential (IPCC), the company’s mission is to power the global regenerative agriculture movement: this centres on connecting farmers, corporates and finance, enabling farmers to adopt regenerative practices at scale and companies to achieve their sustainability goals.

The transition to regenerative agriculture not only boosts long-term farm profitability but also unlocks the potential of soil as a climate solution. Agreena’s business model enables farmers to be compensated for this transition in a way that benefits the planet and society at large.
