Revenir was founded in 2019 with a simple but powerful mission: to make reclaiming VAT on international purchases seamless, transparent, and accessible. We realised when travelling from abroad, many customers were eligible for VAT refunds, but the complex, paper-heavy process resulted in only a fraction of what they were owed being recovered. That experience revealed a broader issue—VAT refund systems across the world were fragmented, inefficient, and largely inaccessible to the everyday traveller. We saw an opportunity to apply technology and user-centred design to an industry that had remained stagnant for decades.

Starting with just an email inbox and a handful of early testers, we manually processed claims to understand pain points and build the foundations of what would become a fully digital, scalable solution. Today, Revenir partners with financial institutions to embed VAT reclaim directly into banking platforms and digital wallets, turning what was once a frustrating afterthought into a streamlined, embedded experience. Our platform is now growing across multiple major VAT refund markets, and we continue to scale globally.

One of our biggest challenges has been navigating a complex web of international tax regulations while delivering a user experience that feels effortless. Balancing regulatory compliance with simplicity required not only deep domain expertise but also smart technical choices—particularly in how we’ve implemented automation and machine learning. As we’ve grown, we’ve leveraged AI to streamline document recognition, identify eligible transactions, and flag anomalies for fraud prevention. These systems help reduce manual review times, improve accuracy, and scale operations without compromising trust or compliance.

Revenir’s impact on the AI and fintech landscape lies in how we’ve applied intelligent automation to a highly regulated, data-sensitive process.
