About Optalysys
Founded in 2013 by Dr Nick New (CEO) and Robert Todd (CTO), Optalysys is a Leeds-based company enabling the future of secure computing. It does this by harnessing light waves, or photonics, with the semiconducting properties of silicon to create the worlds first silicon photonic chip for Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), which allows data to be processed at scale, without it ever needing to be decrypted. It offers the only solution that overcomes the limitations of FHE and traditional computing to unlock the power of data to solve real-world challenges.
There are complex, computationally intensive encryption methods today that allow data to be used without decryption. However, current computing methods and conventional hardware are too slow to process these encryption methods. Optalysys technology has the potential to speed up this process and benefit multiple industries. Hospitals, for example, could securely send private data, such as MRI scans, to multiple sources for analysis while ensuring patient data remains secure and private. Optalysys FHE solution enables multiple parties to share and work on data without ever seeing or exposing it. This opens up new possibilities for using sensitive data, where legal, technical or commercial reasons have so far prevented data sharing. Collaboration is accelerated, and data remains secure at all times.
Targeting blockchain as its first market, Optalysys is already seeing strong early traction for its technology. Traditionally, public blockchain transactions are fully transparent, meaning all activity between wallets is visible and recorded, a significant challenge for industries handling sensitive information, such as financial services. Optalysys is leading the way in secure and confidential blockchain transactions, and earlier this year, the company launched LightLocker™ Node, the worlds first dedicated hardware to accelerate FHE and ensure complete confidentiality on any transaction. It maintains the decentralisation that blockchain offers, while adding the confidentiality, performance and scalability required for widespread enterprise adoption of FHE. Optalysys LightLocker Node is purpose-built for blockchain encryption, offering an alternative to the current reliance on costly and inefficient GPU-based systems.
Optalysys is at the forefront of secure computing and privacy-enhancing technologies, already building partnerships with other innovative companies in the space. This includes working with Google HEIR to integrate its photonic processing technology into HEIRs compiler toolchain for fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) and partnering with Duality Technologies to help make FHE more accessible and commercially viable across industries like healthcare and finance.
