What Is the Dieselgate Scandal?

In 2015, a number of Volkswagen diesel vehicles were exposed for having cheated on their diesel emissions tests using technology known as a “defeat device”. This technology helped cover up the true extent of the pollutants that the vehicle was emitting. It allowed the vehicle to sense when under testing conditions, and would subsequently alter its performance to create fake, more desirable results.

During the altered performance mode, the vehicle was set to run under full power, able to sense when it was under these testing conditions through such factors as:

  • Air pressure
  • Speed
  • The position of the steering wheel
  • The engine operation

From this altered performance and faked results, vehicles were allowed on the road that omitted up to 40 times more nitrogen oxide pollutants than allowed by the U.S. regulatory limit.

Many vehicle owners were mis-sold these cars, which resulted in increased harmful emissions, as well as impacting upon the resale value of the cars.

Am I Eligible for a Mercedes Diesel Emission Claim?

In order to make a Mercedes Diesel Emission Claim, you’ll have to meet certain eligibility criteria, including the following:

  • It must be a diesel engine car
  • It must have been bought between the years of 2008 to 2019 (bought new and second hand still eligible)
  • You’ve got the vehicle in question corrected so that it now complies with the applicable emissions standards
  • The vehicle was bought outright or acquired through a lease.

If you don’t currently own the vehicle in question, you can still be eligible to make a claim. If able to make a claim, affected vehicle owners could potentially receive compensation from a few hundred pounds to £10,000 per vehicle. How Much Could I Receive From a Mercedes Emission Claim?

If successful, you could receive anything from a few hundred pounds to £10,000 per vehicle. If you have fleets, vans or multiple vehicles, it could be worth even more than this combined.

The bigger the engine that’s being claims for, and the larger value of it, the higher the claim could be – this is the case particularly if you ended up paying money to upgrade the vehicle.

How Long Does It Take To Hear Back?

After you’ve submitted a claim, you should receive a reply from the car manufacturer within a 4-week period from the time your claim went through.
