A Chat with Chris Miligan, Founder and CEO at B2B SaaS Platform: Konfir

Chris Miligan

Konfir is a B2B SaaS platform that lets you instantly access employment or income records for any UK-based worker, with their consent. The platform aggregates multiple consent driven payroll, HR and banking data sources, to offer an efficient solution to the current administrative headache of running pre-employment verification and getting the necessary checks employees need and it’s the first of its kind in Europe.

Employment verifications are required in various consumer life events such as moving jobs or homes. Companies and individuals face a barrier, having to prove on average either 3 or 5 years of work history. This sensitive employment data is currently shared in an unsecure way via email, PDF or on phone calls. Konfir simplifies and secures the process; starting with employee permission and then moving through a streamlined workflow which companies can integrate with directly.

What do you think makes this company unique?

Around the world, there is a recognition that consumer data can be used in a controlled and secure way to support many financial and life events. Historically, this data has been fragmented and stuck in different systems like payroll platforms and banks. A number of services are now allowing consumers to access and share their own data in a controlled way.

However, many of these platforms are not making the data available via API to those who can consume it. At Konfir, we recognise the power of this information and offering but also see the need to combine various different data sources to solve industry problems. We are building products to focus on industry issues starting with employment verification and background checking because it’s an industry that our team have decades of experience in and where the currently available data sets can instantly provide value.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

Konfir has been operating for just over one year and in that time has brought an instant employment verification offering to market in the UK. We have established ourselves as the innovator supporting domestic and international background checking providers to vastly increase turn around times and reduce costs.

We’ve also begun working with industry groups and government agencies in an effort to standardise the way employment data and verifications are handled.

What can we hope to see from Konfir in the future?

Whilst Konfir is currently focused on pre-employment verification, the technology has a broader addressable market, including tenant vetting, mortgages and loan applications. The launch of Konfir comes at an exciting time as the UK Government enables Digital ID to now be used for Right to Work and Right to Rent checks, further digitising the process of key life events.
