Tell Us About Animated Company
Animated Company is a hybrid studio exploring new forms of storytelling through generative AI, traditional animation, and visual effects. We collaborate with brands, studios, and creatives to build original content, software, and visual development using next-gen workflows. Our goal is to bridge the gap between emerging tools and emotionally resonant storytelling. AI tends to get headlines for its technical capabilities, but storytelling with AI has been overlooked and undervalued in the space, and starting with a strong story is key to maintaining interest. We see it as a vital element of any video content. By blending technical innovation with narrative insight, we help our partners communicate ideas with clarity, emotion, and impact. Making sure technology serves the story, not the other way around.
What Do You Think Makes Your Offering Unique?
We combine deep craft experience in animation and VFX with a systems-level understanding of generative AI. This means that we can provide our clients with the best of both approaches. Unlike many AI content shops, we don’t just chase automation. Rather, we design workflows where humans remain in control, guiding technology with intent and precision. Our team knows how to direct, polish, and integrate AI-generated assets into production-ready work, bridging the gap between creative ambition and technical execution. This lets us move faster without sacrificing creative integrity, achieving the best results for each individual project, helping our clients navigate a rapidly evolving landscape.
How Has Your Offering and Approach Evolved?
We began by experimenting with AI tools to augment animation production. Focusing initially on things like style transfer, inbetweening, and background generation. Over time, we realised our value wasn’t just technical – it was curatorial. That is, we became experts at selecting the right tools, shaping aesthetic direction, and making judgment calls about what should be generated, not just what could be. Now, we focus on building modular pipelines that allow us to test ideas quickly, produce high-impact visuals, and guide clients through an unfamiliar and evolving creative process. As such, we act not only as engineers, but as creative stewards, shaping the juncture between human vision and machine capability.
What Can We See from Animated Company in the Future?
You’ll see more original work. Our focus in the next year or so is going to be short films and prototypes that show what AI-assisted animation can look like when paired with strong direction. We’re also developing our own internal tools that merge sketch, motion, and AI into a unified creative pipeline. We already have tools such as Fossa, our own in-house AI animation ecosystem, and will be releasing public versions of tools that fit within that ecosystem. So, the aim is to produce more proprietary systems that can both feed into Fossa, and enhance other creative processes across our pipeline. In the longer term, we aim to make Animated Company and Fossa the biggest names in AI and animation, producing boundary-pushing content and technology that define a new era. It’s a big ambition, but I don’t believe that it is beyond our reach.
