Tell us about Human Data Sciences

 

Human Data Sciences (HDS) is the team behind Livingstone, an advanced analytics platform that delivers near real-time, complex analysis of anonymised NHS patient health data.
The results it produces are scientifically valid, auditable, and reproducible.

The platform was created by our experienced multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, statisticians, healthcare data scientists and developers, led by Professor Craig Currie of Cardiff University, to accelerate the process of evidence generation for healthcare research. Livingstone’s core outputs include epidemiological, burden of illness and outcomes studies: essential insights for sectors including life sciences, healthcare and regulatory.

HDS’ Livingstone is the first ever SaaS platform to produce peer-reviewed-quality epidemiology and economic analysis of complex real-world data in minutes.

We genuinely believe that we can transform the process of healthcare research. Where it used to take months to produce a scientifically robust study, Livingstone can do it in minutes.
From a life sciences perspective, Livingstone supports the complete product lifecycle, facilitating go/no-go decisions, accelerating the development of new treatments and determining real-world and comparative effectiveness.

 

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

 

Our company has undergone a significant transformation in recent years. Previously, conducting retrospective observational studies required months of work from skilled research teams.
With the introduction of Livingstone, we’ve automated much of this process, delivering insights instantly. This shift has not only enhanced efficiency but also allowed our team to focus on more complex studies and the continuous advancement of Livingstone.

The efficiencies we’ve achieved internally are now being extended to our clients, revolutionising how real-world evidence is generated and utilised.

 

What can we hope to see from Human Data Sciences in the future?

 

At Human Data Sciences, we are relentlessly advancing Livingstone to redefine real-world evidence generation. Our latest enhancements include a cohort generator and cohort explorer, enabling users to define and refine study cohorts with precision – selecting patients based on inclusion/exclusion criteria, characteristics, and biometric measurements.

Looking ahead, AI-driven expansion is at the heart of our innovation. We’re integrating AI-language model-powered assistance and voice-activated engagement, allowing users to interact with Livingstone in a natural, intuitive way – speeding up workflows and eliminating technical barriers. This means faster insights, real-time study adjustments, and unprecedented accessibility for non-technical users.

Additionally, we are enhancing our drugs module with deeper analysis of treatment adherence, persistence, and switching behaviours, providing pharmaceutical companies with game-changing intelligence for optimising patient outcomes and market access strategies.
