Dr Kyle Grant, Founder at Oxwash: Disrupting The Laundry Industry

Dr Kyle Grant, founder of Oxwash

Oxwash is here to disrupt the laundry industry. Using practices learnt from my time at NASA, our space-age technology provides businesses with a highly convenient service that doesn’t destroy the planet. We are harnessing the power of science to overhaul the industry.

Traditional methods can only go so far, and have taken their toll on the planet. Using ozone technology for disinfection allows us to maintain the integrity of the items we receive by washing at low temperatures but destroying bacteria, viruses and allergens. The model is simple, customers place an order online, choose a collection and drop off time and place, and our experienced team collect, wash and deliver, all with zero net carbon emissions and all in house.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

I founded Oxwash in 2018 while completing my PhD at Oxford University, mainly out of frustration from the perpetually broken washing machines in my college laundry. It all started with my bike and a backpack, collecting and washing clothes for my friends and other students, this rather rapidly snowballed into a growing on demand laundry business as interest grew.

After looking into the commercial laundry industry and lifting the lid on how wasteful and pollutive it truly is, Oxwash has made it our mission to build the future of laundry, a service with no environmental impact and world class results.

What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs?

As an entrepreneur you’re faced with a plethora of problems from team members getting ill to legal restructuring of your entire business. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Surround yourself with industry experts from all walks of life who have been through the wringer.

Listen and learn from advisors and hire team members who bring differing views and perspectives. Build a resilient team greater than the sum of their parts.

What can we hope to see from Oxwash in the future?

Many, many more of our signature blue e-Cargo bikes on our streets! Having launched two cities in 2020, Cambridge and most recently London, we’re hoping to keep expanding our sustainable service nationally and internationally. We have some exciting new partnerships in the pipeline and are striving to be a voice for change and awareness in an industry that so desperately needs it, specifically leading the conversion from toxic Dry Cleaning to it’s less-known and eco-friendly alternative Wet Cleaning.

We’re working on a solution to rapidly scaling our process and are going back to our roots to expand faster…Watch this space!
