Interview with Ben Harper, Founder of Meet Hugo

We caught up with Ben Harper, founder of Meet Hugo, to talk all things from the importance of working from a centralised platform to international expansion to Europe and the US…

Tell us about Meet Hugo

I founded Meet Hugo in 2018 as a startup focused on helping B2B companies grow and expand. Our innovative business intelligence platform means that our customers can grow their pipelines, create new relationships, and ultimately make more sales.

Our headquarters is based in the UK, in Cambridgeshire. This is where our leadership, research, UK sales, market, and customer success teams are based. We also operate a US office in Miami, which is helping us to grow within the US market, with additional support from our team in the Philippines.

We’re a growing team, but we have considerable experience in business intelligence and data management, which we’re committed to using to help B2B companies across the globe.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

I came up with the idea for Meet Hugo when I saw many solutions out there that allowed users to pitch for jobs and tenders using credits, but nothing that tailored these opportunities to specific needs.

I also noticed that there was nothing available that allowed users to pitch for work and tenders using one centralised platform; that’s when I came up with the idea of creating a hub where users could access all the recommended opportunities in one easy place.

How has the need for Meet Hugo evolved during the pandemic?

As a business intelligence platform that helps customers attain high-quality and relevant leads for their business, we found that Meet Hugo was a huge help to businesses in what has been a challenging time for many.

We were fortunate to be able to grow considerably through lockdown and went from nine staff in the UK to twenty-seven to help meet the demand of the customers signing up for the platform.

What can we hope to see from Meet Hugo in the future?

We’re always on the lookout for talented and skilled people, so we’re hoping to continue with our investment in our staff to continue to grow the UK arm of the business.

We’ve placed a lot of emphasis on our growth in the US, as we’re hoping to grow our Miami office in the same way that we have in Cambridgeshire. We’re also really looking forward to our expansion into Europe with our German office, which we’ll be opening in the next few months.
