Interview with Cheney Hamilton, CEO at Flexible Working Recruitment Company: Find Your Flex

CHENEY HAMILTON

We are a recruitment advertising and research house. We bring the best flexible working jobs to job seekers. We know flexible working means different things to different people, so we advertise a whole range of flexible working roles.

But we don’t stop there, we know some organisations don’t have flexible working policies that are fit for purpose, or they struggle with issues around inclusion and diversity. So, we have a team of specialist HR consultants that help navigate such businesses to a solution.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

The business was born from the frustrations of my personal experience of being unable to gain the flex I needed. My daughter had hip dysplasia with numerous hospital visits and was in a cast for 18 months. I needed flex but couldn’t get it. I started advertising flexible working roles in 2017.

Initially via Mummyjobs.co.uk and Daddyjobs.co.uk (which recently celebrated their 4th birthdays respectively). About 9 months later it was increasingly apparent that flexible working was something people wanted, not just parents. The reasons for wanting flex in a job are multifactorial and individual. No longer could we confine flexible working as a need for parents. Thus, Find Your Flex was created.

How has the company evolved during the pandemic?

At the start of the pandemic business was tough. Very few businesses were advertising jobs. The ones who did were overwhelmed with applicants. It felt like everything was on hold. But we knew we were on the cusp of something big.

Through the pandemic the inequalities in society became increasingly evident. We began to realise that access to flexible working ran deeper than work life balance. It was also about access to work. Access to independence, to survival, to growth and to inclusion. Flexible working paves the way to diversity and inclusion. We knew we could help so many businesses on this front. So, along with our HR consultants we have been doing exactly that.

In recent months we have seen an increase in business, our team has grown, and we have some fantastic plans in the pipeline. We are creating a Societal Change Maker Accreditation that will help further support and develop ethical businesses.

What can we hope to see from Find Your Flex in the future?

A Future of work in which everyone has access to true flexible working. A future of work where nobody faces prejudice or discrimination whilst in the workplace or trying to access it. A future of work where the values, culture and behaviours of an organisation lead to inclusive, innovative and ethical business.

We want to help as many businesses and job seekers as possible, Find Their Flex.

We aren’t stopping there though we are encouraging businesses to pave the way for and drive positive societal change in a variety of other ways too. My team and I believe in turning thought leadership into action.
