Interview With Nick Root, Co-Founder and CEO of Intergiro

Intergiro is a full-stack payments API that helps businesses embed financial services directly into their workflows and UX. We provide a toolkit that lets internet platforms build and manage money flows, offering accounts, cards, and other banking tools via a single API.

We work with a range of companies — from payment platforms to Web3 providers and asset management firms — helping them build closed-loop payment systems. These systems not only enable instant deposits but also reduce costs, a win-win for all parties involved.

What Do You Think Makes Intergiro Unique?

What makes Intergiro unique is that we offer the full financial value chain — acquirer, card issuer, and account provider — through a single API. In a fintech world where most players focus on just one piece of the puzzle, this kind of consolidation is rare and means full business ecosystems can be built on Intergiro.

Beyond our product, Intergiro is fully bootstrapped. Without VC funding, we’ve retained full control over our vision, which has kept us agile and hyper-focused on our customers. Last November, we hit profitability, validating our approach to running lean and efficient. Our ability to pivot quickly, paired with resilience in a highly regulated industry, keeps us ahead of the curve.

How Has Intergiro Evolved?

We started in 2017 with a simple B2B product: a business IBAN with FX and a card, controllable via API. The product had some early success, but clients were asking us for embedded services, even before ‘embedded’ was a commonly used phrase. We therefore shifted from a B2B model to B2B2C, and now, we’re tackling B2B2B. Our platform has grown to include onboarding tools, embedded payments, and more.

Initially, we thought our product would serve small businesses, but we’ve since expanded to work with larger internet platforms. The feedback loop between us and our clients has been crucial — it allowed us to pivot and adapt to the needs of a rapidly changing market, especially as embedded finance became a trend.

What Can We See From Intergiro In the Future?

Software is eating fintech, just like it’s eating everything else. Fintech is no longer just an industry — it’s becoming a layer in the digital fabric alongside AI, the Metaverse, Web3, and Spatial Reality. This shift is creating enormous value, far beyond what traditional fintech has ever achieved.

Everything is moving toward embedded finance. BaaS — Banking-as-a-Service — and embedded financial services are key drivers of this evolution, and if you’re a fintech player without an embedded offering, you’ll be left behind. We’re zeroing in on what financial services were always meant to be — seamless, integrated, and offered as a service within other products.

We’re building for this future with Intergiro. Our focus is scaling our B2B2B offering, opening up all of our backend financial tools so businesses can create their own financial services on top of our platform, much like Amazon did with AWS.

We believe the real value lies in the workflows around payments, not just the payments themselves. As payments become more commoditised and costs are pushed down, the surrounding workflows will drive value. That’s why embedded fintechs will shift toward SaaS pricing models, charging for these workflows rather than just transactions.

Intergiro is already positioned for this world. We’ve built our platform to be as close to the payment networks as possible, without relying on partner banks or agents. By removing these middlemen, we provide faster, more efficient services. With a super-focused ICP and a lean team that hit profitability already, we’re hopefully primed to lead the charge.
