Tell us about SENGUARD
SENGUARD is specialising in online security for older adults – competent internet users who are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals. While over 50s are usually confident online, the tools designed to protect them haven’t kept pace with the growing threats they face.
That’s where we come in. Our cybersecurity service is designed specifically for older adults offering pre-emptive protection against scams, malicious websites, and social engineering attacks – without requiring users to change their online habits. Unlike traditional antivirus software that reacts to threats, SENGUARD stops them before they even reach a user’s device. All of this is delivered through a simple, affordable monthly subscription.
How did you come up with the idea, and what makes SENGUARD unique?
The company was born from a problem I saw first-hand through personal experience – and one that I knew could be solved through the professional expertise of co-founder Grant and I. My grandfather, a retired mechanical engineer and army veteran, was scammed out of thousands of pounds in a ransomware attack. The financial loss was one thing, but what struck me most was the loss of confidence – it robbed him of his independence and cut him off from the things he loved, like writing his memoirs and staying in touch with family.
What makes SENGUARD unique is our specialist focus. Existing solutions often leave gaps and overlaps in their default setup, often due to complex tiered/add-on based pricing structures. We’ve built a solution for the over-50s – a demographic that controls most of the UK’s wealth and, as a result, is the most targeted by online scams – by keeping it simple with no jargon, and no complex setup. We ensure maximum protection without complicating the user experience.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Solve a problem that actually matters. With SENGUARD, we didn’t just find a market opportunity – we uncovered a growing societal issue that no one was addressing properly. Cybercrime is now considered the biggest threat to the UK economy by the Bank of England, yet older adults – who are most at risk – are being overlooked by traditional security firms.
Also, surround yourself with the right people early on. Our partnerships with cybersecurity bodies, financial institutions, and charities have been crucial – not just for refining our product but also for validating our mission. Building credibility and trust in this space is just as important as building great tech.
What excites you most about SENGUARD?
The impact we can have on people. Every 40 seconds, someone over 65 falls victim to cybercrime in the UK. And 95% of victims in this age group never tell anyone. The psychological toll is enormous – many fear losing their independence or being seen as vulnerable.
We’re not just selling cybersecurity – we’re restoring confidence. The more people we can protect, the more lives we can change.
How has the company evolved?
We’ve gone from an idea to a rapidly growing company with real traction. A major turning point was securing support from the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab, which allowed us to refine our product and launch our first pilots. We also won £75,000 from the Scottish EDGE competition which definitely sped things up.
We’ve built a strong advisory board, including leaders from Cyber & Fraud Scotland, SAP, and security law experts. That level of expertise has helped us shape a product that is not just effective but also building trust with major institutions.
What can we expect from SENGUARD in the future?
2025 is going to be a huge year for us. Our immediate focus is a UK-wide rollout, backed by ou upcoming investment round this spring. We’re launching with non-profit organisations first, then expanding through enterprise licensing deals with banks, financial institutions, and internet service providers – where we can have the biggest impact at scale.
Long-term, our vision is simple: make the internet safer for all. There are 19.5 million over-50s online in the UK, and we believe this market is just the beginning. As cyber threats continue to evolve, our technology will too – keeping those most at risk protected, confident, and secure.
