Meet Andy Meikle, CEO and Founder at On Demand Streaming Platform: Recast

Recast is a live and on demand streaming platform, powered by microtransactions, that gives fans affordable, subscription-free access to the sports and entertainment they love, and unlocks vital revenue streams for publishers (content creators and rights holders) who want to monetise their content.

I created Recast in response to the dominance of costly subscription models for sports fans, and a fragmented sports broadcasting landscape where only top tier rights holders were able to earn substantial revenue from their content.

I spotted an opportunity to develop a new platform that could combat subscription-fatigue, make content of all kinds more accessible for fans, and provide publishers with a much fairer monetisation model than those offered by other social media and streaming platforms.

Our ever expanding roster of publishers currently includes sporting giants Manchester City and Inter Milan, and leading content creators and influencers such as DJ and Radio 1xtra host Cuppy, and top motoring enthusiast Seen Through Glass.

What do you think makes this company unique?

At Recast we are working to drive a real, generational change to democratise the distribution of content.

Fans can purchase content on Recast using Cast Credits, our unique in-platform currency, and will only pay for what they watch. Our platform is powered by microtransactions and gives fans the opportunity to earn Cast Credits by watching ads, sharing data or content, or referring friends, which they can then use to purchase more content.

For publishers, Recast provides unique functionality for collaborating and sharing earnings with partners through Smart Contracts, easy access to earnings and performance data, and the ability to set their own price-per-view and restrict content by geographical location – all controlled by publishers using our own proprietary technology, Recast Publish.

How has Recast evolved over the last couple of years?

Over the last couple years we have grown and developed substantially, with a team of more than 50 employees now based out of our headquarters in Edinburgh. In September 2022 we officially stepped out of Beta and expanded our focus into the world of entertainment. Our platform is available in over 100 countries, with over 250 channels, catering for multiple languages and currencies, and we are growing all the time.

What can we hope to see from Recast in the future?

2022 was a huge year for Recast, both in terms of the development of our platform’s unique functionality, and in terms of new publishers and fan growth. In 2023 we’re going to build on that momentum.

We have some incredible product releases to come, including live chat and the next phase of our ‘Data Profile’ feature, which will give fans even more control over how their data is used by publishers and advertisers. Further development of our platform, alongwith the expected increase in the number of channels across a wide range of entertainment categories, will deliver an even more engaging experience for fans on Recast.
