Meet Erik Wikander, CEO and Co-Founder At Content Marketing Platform: Zupyak

Tell us about Zupyak

Zupyak, headquartered in Stockholm, is a content marketing platform designed for startups and small businesses.

It’s the world’s largest content marketing community with over 400,000 users worldwide, creating and publishing over 50,000 articles each month, in 90 different languages. The platform simplifies the process of creating SEO-optimised marketing content through generative AI, helping businesses lower their marketing costs, without the need for external agencies or additional SEO and AI tools.

Zupyak is backed by notable angel investors including Magnus Bergman who was the first investor in Truecaller and Prezi, Fredrik Posse who is one of the founders of Soundtrap, which was sold to Spotify and Joanna Törngren Redebrant who has been named as top 100 Europe’s most influential women in the startup and and VC space.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

The idea behind Zupyak was born by co-founder Qi Cao. He struggled to find a blog platform designed for businesses – a platform that would facilitate the sharing of industry-specific ideas without the limitations of a one-size-fits-all approach. Qi decided to create a platform that allowed businesses to upload and share their content.

In less than five years, the platform grew to 300,000 users, and with 50,000 articles being shared every month. The platform attracted a diverse community from across the globe, primarily consisting of small and medium-sized companies (SMBs), writing about their business practices, ranging from tractor services to trips to the Himalayas.

The reason why our users were publishing content on our platform is that content marketing is one of the few marketing channels that can generate customers at no cost. Over the last years, paid marketing has become much more expensive. For example, the cost of advertising on Facebook increased over 89% between 2021 and 2022.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

In 2022, I joined as the CEO and co-founder at Zupyak. Qi and I thought about ways to support our community beyond content sharing on the platform. We saw an opportunity to use generative AI for efficient marketing content creation, reducing time and resources.

We engaged with hundreds of users from our community to provide tools that enhance the end-to-end content creation experience, from idea generation to research and development.

In early 2023, we launched our first AI-powered product – a SEO enabled AI writer. We’ve continued to add platform features such as our ‘AI editor’ and ‘SEO score’ which analyses search engine results, helping our users in optimising the content for maximum reach.

Today, our users, whether it is a coffee shop, a software business or a dental practice, use our AI products every other day to ideate, research and create marketing content.

What can we hope to see from Zupyak in the future?

An ever-expanding array of marketing channels, an increase of costs associated with paid marketing, and an overall complexity in the marketing landscape have added up to the challenges many businesses face.

We believe that AI technology is the silver bullet that small and medium-sized businesses have been waiting for. We’ll continue to enhance our offerings to support businesses worldwide in their marketing content creation. Our mission is to enable these businesses to thrive through our tools, powered by our ever-growing community.
