TMT Analysis is a mobile analytics and data intelligence company, which analyses over 60m numbers a day to ensure they are true and accurate. This intelligence enables organisations to obtain rich and actionable data to strengthen and validate the user verification process, reduce fake accounts, give risk insights, improve conversations, and determine the optimal channel for message delivery.

Launched in 2016, we’ve expanded rapidly and now process 3 billion data queries to our database every month, up from 3 million four years ago.

One of our latest products, Verify, offers a suite of services that help fight fraud, strengthen the on-boarding process, reduce fake accounts without impacting the user experience.
 

 

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

 
From shopping to banking to paying for goods and services at TMT Analysis we know how important mobile devices are in people’s lives. We also know that typically people will only change their mobile number once or twice.

As our lives become increasingly smartphone based it’s more important than ever for businesses to truly understand and interact well with their mobile customers. Is their number still active? Are they who they say they are? Which network are they using? Where are they located? Are they a risk?

So in 2016 when we started our business we had just one mission, to provide the very best mobile numbering intelligence service, using the quickest most accurate data and technology available.

Simply using a customer mobile number enables organisations to obtain rich and actionable data intelligence to strengthen and validate the user verification process, reduce fake accounts, give risk insights, improve conversations, and determine the optimal channel for message delivery, such as One Time Passwords or Two Factor Authentication SMS.

How has the company evolved during the pandemic?

 
The pandemic has led to a huge growth in everything mobile. Whether shopping online, banking or socialising, mobiles play an increasing role in our lives over the past two years. This has led to an explosion in the need for companies to effectively engage with their mobile customers in new and different ways as well as verifying and authenticating who they say they are. Using live telco data, our services are increasingly being used to help companies ensure a mobile number and a device are linked to the person they hold on record, particularly at the point of account sign up or at checkout.

Our services are also being increasingly used to counter the threat of frauds such as SimSwap attacks or account take over frauds when a fraudster manages to take hold of a customer’s account. Our data can spot this fraud and alert companies to it, therefore enabling them to protect their customers. In 2021 in the U.S. $68m was lost through this sort of attack.
 

What can we hope to see from TMT Analysis in the future?

 
For many businesses, the mobile telephone is becoming the most convenient and important way to engage with customers. The longevity of a mobile number and a device linked to an individual makes it a powerful element of our digital identity.

We are developing a range of additional products using telco data to verify a person is who they say they are. Linking a mobile number to a device and ultimately to a person will help prevent less identity fraud at the point of sign up as well as protecting customers from the devastating effects of account take over.
