Tell us about CyberSmart
CyberSmart is an all-in-one cybersecurity monitoring, optimisation, training and insurance platform proven to help small businesses defend against cyber threats.
We were formed in 2016, as a handful of people, in an Airbnb in Cheltenham. After graduating from GCHQ’s Cyber Accelerator programme in 2017 we’ve gone from strength to strength. As I speak in 2025, we protect over 5,000 businesses, 50,000+ devices, and a network of 1,000+ partners.
How did you come up with the idea for the company? OR what do you think makes this company unique?
It was pretty simple. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent 99.9% of the UK business population. They are the backbone of our economy. Yet, they’ve long been underserved by the cybersecurity community, whose solutions are often tailored to larger enterprises with expansive IT teams and resources.
We started CyberSmart to address this. Our SME-centric approach is also what makes us unique. There are very few, if any, other UK cybersecurity companies with a comprehensive and tailored solution for small businesses.

What is your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Persevere. Although it might not be the ideal economic environment to start a business, if you’ve got a good idea keep going. CyberSmart is a great example of how you can overcome challenges and come out the other side stronger. In our relatively short existence, we’ve weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and economic headwinds and ultimately come through in a stronger position.

What most excites you about CyberSmart?
Our mission. We started CyberSmart to make a material difference to small businesses’ cyber resilience. As we gain more customers and release more products, I can see our mission being achieved. At the same time, we won’t stop until we’ve made the UK and the wider world a safer place to do business, and the scale of that challenge is exciting.
How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?
Dramatically. We’ve almost doubled our customer base, grown a network of over 1,000 partners, and released several product improvements and new solutions. At the same time, our staff has grown to over 70 people, in roles ranging from engineering and customer success to product marketing.
But we’re far from done. We’re projected to double our customer base again in 2025 as we move towards our Series C funding round in 2026.
What can we hope to see from CyberSmart in the future?
2025 is set to be a very exciting year for us. We’re hoping to release new products for cybersecurity awareness training, phishing prevention, automated patching and zero-trust, providing small businesses with a complete security solution.
Alongside this, we have plans for international expansion into Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. It’s the first step to bringing Complete Cyber Confidence to businesses across the globe.
