Meet Muna Daud, Founder at Period Detection Product: FlowSense

Tell us about FlowSense

FlowSense is the world’s first patented period detection product that empowers visually impaired women to independently manage their menstrual hygiene.

The core of FlowSense lies in its ability to accurately detect the pH levels of vaginal fluids. By analysing these differences, the device can distinguish between menstrual blood and regular discharge, providing users with precise information about their cycle. This innovative approach empowers visually impaired women to track their periods independently and make informed decisions about their health.

To ensure accessibility, FlowSense incorporates a user-friendly design that caters to the needs of visually impaired individuals. The device features tactile elements and clear audio feedback, allowing users to navigate the device and interpret results without relying on visual cues. Additionally, the accompanying app provides a comprehensive overview of menstrual cycles, offering insights into patterns and potential health concerns.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

I was drawn to the intersection of women’s health and technology after noticing how many products overlook the diverse needs of women – especially those with visual impairments. Through research and conversations with users, it became clear that traditional solutions weren’t inclusive enough.

FlowSense is unique because we focus on personalised, accessible design that empowers all women to monitor their health confidently, regardless of ability or background.

What is your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?

My biggest advice is to listen first – to your potential users, to industry experts, and to anyone willing to share honest feedback. Start with genuine empathy for the problem you’re solving, then be resilient in iterating your solution.

Another key piece of advice: build a solid network. Collaborations and mentors can help you spot things you wouldn’t have previously noticed and push you to grow faster than you ever would alone.

What most excites you about FlowSense?

I’m most excited by how FlowSense enables direct conversations with people who often feel overlooked. Every time we conduct workshops or test our solutions, we see firsthand how inclusive innovation can drive both commercial success and social impact. That immediate feedback loop – and the genuine enthusiasm from users – fuels our passion to keep improving.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

We started with a proof of concept focusing on menstrual detection for visually impaired women. Over time, we’ve expanded our scope to include broader women’s health needs – integrating user-driven research into wearable tech, app development, and workshop facilitation.

We’re now more collaborative than ever, working with universities, accelerators, and other startups to refine our technology and enhance usability.

What can we hope to see from FlowSense in the future?

We’re poised to grow our platform beyond a single product, aiming to be a trusted partner in inclusive women’s health. Our next steps involve deeper collaboration with healthcare providers, continued user research for expanded use cases, and a stronger presence at industry events to champion accessible design.

Ultimately, you can expect FlowSense to stay true to its mission: creating practical solutions that uplift every woman’s well-being.
