Meet Sachin Dev Duggal, Founder at Software Development Platform: Builder.ai

Builder.ai is a leading AI-powered low-code/no-code app development platform that builds software and apps up to 6x faster and up to 70% cheaper than traditional human teams, without users needing to speak tech.

As the world digitizes, there is a big problem with the massive gap between the software that is being developed and the amount of developers. The problem of idea-to-code needs to be solved, and we set out to achieve this through Builder.ai. When we started we we went back to explore how software is made today – what best practices we could find across various industries.

We were intrigued about how Ford worked with an assembly line producing cars by a small group of people that did everything from the engine to the seats.

We are applying this methodology to custom-built software by employing our AI-powered assembly line, which fuses together Lego-like reusable features, using automation to reduce human effort, leveraging a verified network of experts to vastly extend development capabilities, and producing apps at almost zero failure rate that are multitudes cheaper and faster than traditional software development.

How did you come up with the idea for the company and what do you think makes this company unique?

Builder.ai started in 2016 after my co-founder and I tried to build a photo sharing app. We thought that by being based in San Francisco, we’d have an easy time finding developers or working with an outsourcing company to help us build the app.

Sadly we were mistaken and it was a horrible experience. Realizing how hard it was for us to get an app built, we understood how hard this is for the small business owner.

My team and I believe that tech is an equilibrium creator, but only if access is available for everyone. Personally, I don’t want our kids to grow up in a world where their ability to impact is capped by their tech skills. This is really what drives us – the ability to make a global impact and the idea that we can empower everyone to build their ideas.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

The business is seeing real tailwinds. We have increased revenue by over 300% and deployed more than 40,000 features to happy customers within the last year. We’ve also grown a lot over the last year, more than doubling our employee base with offices in London, India, UAE, Singapore and the U.S.

We just announced our Series C raise of $100M led by Insight Partners, a New York-based global venture capital and private equity firm. The round, which brings the company’s total funding to $195 million across three total rounds, includes participation from existing investors in combination with new individual and institutional names that include the IFC & Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo.

What can we hope to see from Builder.ai in the future?

We are very excited to continue our tailwinds – scaling the platform to reduce human effort and growing self serve so that our SMB customers can accelerate through the build process even more.

We are also heavily focused on making sure our customers are successful beyond code; from guidance to marketplace service expansion.
