Meet Thomas Zoëga Ramsøy, Founder and CEO at Consumer Neuroscience Company: Neurons Inc

Neurons Inc is a company that predicts customer responses. We offer a suite of online products based on neuroscience and AI in the MarTech industry. The product line ranges from easy-to-use SaaS tools to full-scale field research studies. Our products are Predict, an AI that predicts customer responses such as attention, sentiment, and cognition; Explore, a remote neuroscience user testing platform; and Research, a bespoke, full-scale neuroscience research solution.

Our solutions help companies understand their customers better and make consumer neuroscience accessible. Since 2013, we have worked with Fortune-500 companies to optimize every part of their customer journey, including advertising, retail, user experience, innovation, tech, and beyond.

Neurons | Predict Consumer Responses & Behavior.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?

Neurons originally started as a consequence of two things. First, it is a spinoff from the University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School, where I (Thomas) grew increasingly interested in making my scientific research more applicable to commercial and societal challenges.

Second, it went through an incubation process with Lowe’s Innovation Labs, which allowed Neurons to ensure that our offering was relevant, helpful, and actionable to answer commercial needs. Lowe’s, Facebook, IKEA, Google, and many other companies were early users of Neurons, and about 70% of our work has been in the US.

What do you think makes this company unique?

Our platform is developed and validated from data collected from 20+ years of neuroscience research experience. We also have one, if not the largest neuroscience database in the world with more than 20.000 peoples’ brain responses, eye-tracking, behavioural responses, implicit responses and stated responses, while other competitors in the space may be reliant on external, publicly available databases that are not as globally- representative or update.

We also have the highest prediction rate in the market for predicting customer behaviour on our AI prediction tool, Predict. Also, we pride ourselves in having an in-house science team and continuously updating our models through neuroscience, psychology, and behavioural research every year to predict real in-market effects.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?

Since 2013, Neurons was built as a consumer neuroscience consultancy house, with a winning focus on clear insights based on a strong scientific foundation. In 2019, we realized that we were sitting on a database goldmine. Since our foundation, we had dabbled in the space of predicting consumer behaviour, but 2019 and 2020 represent a watershed moment, as we used our vast database to train a completely new AI model to predict behaviour.

At the same time, the 2020 pandemic made us fast-forward a strategy we originally had for 2021, which was to create online panel testing based on our neuroscience solutions. All in all, we created our first full SaaS platform solution in the spring of 2020.

Since then, we have improved dramatically on both the Predict and Explore products, and are now making dramatic new steps into consumer prediction by launching Sentiment AI, first by predicting consumers’ experiences of Engagement and Clarity, and soon through additional experiences and responses.

What can we hope to see from Neurons in the future?

We are soon launching new features on our platform that will include

  • Predicting emotional responses will allow our clients to understand how a consumer touchpoint will be received before it’s even launched
  • Identify areas that drive a lower score, allowing for fixing
  • See areas that contribute to positive scores, which can be boosted
  • Iterate – endlessly in principle – to identify the best performing asset.
  • Overall, we are building our next-gen products, which will take our users beyond mere prediction to now also recommend and suggest how to improve their assets. Beyond this, we are building on completely new solutions that go beyond prediction and recommendation.
