IPG is a British climate-tech company tackling the “dirty secret” of the green energy transformation: the diesel generator. We are developing a clean, multi-fuel generator that will end businesses’ reliance on diesel without sacrificing the energy security it offers.
Our mission is to help difficult-to-decarbonise industries, such as construction and mining, make the transition to net-zero, as well as supporting the widespread electrification of transport and heating.

What do you think makes this company unique?
Nobody else can offer the fuel flexibility that we can with our IPG Flameless Generator, which uses patented flameless combustion technology to deliver clean power from any fuel. Dynamic fuel flexibility unlocks the potential of hydrogen and biofuels while still providing the security of conventional fuels.
Our approach to tackling the decarbonisation of distributed power, by taking on the diesel generator, in many ways flies in the face of the public narrative around solving the energy transition. While we agree that wind, solar and energy storage will and should play leading roles in the transition, these don’t provide a solution for clean power everywhere for everyone.
This is why it’s been important for us to engage with our prospective customers early on to understand their challenges and work to address them.

How has the company evolved over the last couple of years?
Progressing from proof of concept to a functional prototype that investors and customers believe in is one of the greatest challenges a start-up will face. When you have your head down building – and even sometimes breaking – your prototypes, it is all too easy to lose sight of the progress you’ve made.
Our team has wholeheartedly embraced the concept of “failing fast and learning quick”. This mindset has and will continue to be vital to our success, as we move into the next phase of development and equip ourselves to climb the next mountain.
I couldn’t be prouder of the IPG team for their dedication and resilience over the last two years, especially in the face of a global pandemic. It is thanks to them, and to our partners, that we are set to achieve our coming milestones.
What can we hope to see from IPG in the future?
The diesel generator market is projected to almost double to a $30bn market by 2030. With patented technology validated by Cranfield University and a £1m prototype project with National Highways near completion, IPG is well-placed to help address this problem.
As such, we look forward to rapidly displacing diesel generators in our beachhead markets over the coming years. Once we have achieved that, we can focus on growth, bringing in engineering’s best and brightest to set the foundation for solving the energy challenge for as many industries as possible.
We are now raising investment on the Seedrs crowdfunding platform to help us deliver customer trials with our growing list of early adopters and continue innovating. Our campaign is open to anyone interested in investing in IPG and supporting the next stage of our journey.
