Peter Linas Interview – EVP Corporate Development and International at Bullhorn

We caught up with Peter Linas of Bullhorn, one of the UK’s leading recruitment softwares, to hear how they have managed during covid-19 and their plans for growth.

What is the business?

Bullhorn provides cloud-based software for the recruitment industry. I joined the team in 2009 to help launch Bullhorn in the UK. In less than three years, Bullhorn had become the UK’s market-leading recruitment software.

I’m proud to say that we have more than 10,000 customers around the world who rely on Bullhorn to manage the recruitment process from start (finding and screening candidates) to finish (placing them in the right job). Bullhorn is founder-led and employs more than 1,000 people globally.

It is extremely rewarding to know that our software helps people find work, particularly at the moment. People who work in the staffing industry don’t just fill vacant jobs – they fulfil people’s dreams and aspirations. Our software makes the admin involved in the process a lot easier.

How are you different?

Bullhorn is different because it empowers the entire staffing industry with technology, knowledge, and learning.

Bullhorn One unifies entire staffing agencies, centralises critical data management, and allows agencies to customise their tech stack to differentiate and innovate. Bullhorn’s Marketplace allows agencies to integrate with our established partners to tackle more specific business challenges and create unique workflows.

Every year, we host our Engage recruiting conferences in Boston, London, and Sydney. These attract thousands of attendees, and we’ve had speakers including Baroness Karren Brady and Paula Radcliffe. Due to the pandemic, we held our first virtual EngageX conference this year, and I’m pleased to report that it was a huge success, with thousands of people logging in from all around the world. We discussed key industry trends, technology innovation, and best practices to help recruiters get through this trying time. We’ll also be hosting an EngageX Europe online event later in the year.

What challenges have you overcome?

COVID-19 has impacted Bullhorn and the recruitment industry, but we’ve been encouraged by the optimism in the industry. Our Global Recruitment Insights and Data (GRID) COVID-19 Impact Survey found that more than half of recruiting professionals believe that the economy will improve by the end of 2020. Knowing how busy our clients are at the moment trying to get people back into work, I’m not surprised they feel this way, and it is of enormous comfort.

What are your plans for growth?

Like most other enterprises, our growth will be contingent on the general rebound of the economy and growth of the global workforce. But we’re in a good position – we’ve got a strong leadership team, a robust offering and a solid customer base, so I’m confident that we’re in the best possible position for growth given current economic uncertainty.
